Fifty million face masks bought by the government in April will not be used in the NHS because of safety concerns.
In the early weeks of the pandemic the NHS experienced severe shortages of personal protective equipment . The most expensive part of the order consisted of 50 million FFP2 respirator masks, which are designed to protect healthcare workers from inhaling harmful particles.According to legal papers seen by the BBC, the government says these masks will now not be used in the NHS because of a safety issue.To be effective these types of face mask need to fit tightly to create a seal between the mask and the wearer's face.
A very concerning thing? Really? Suddenly mask magically working and protecting general public. Those masks are already on sale and they are getting their money back.

Good to note that we gave a 252 million pound contract to a brand new company with no history of procurement. When will these financial mismanagements be addressed, ferry contracts with no ferries the list of shocking idiotic ineptitude seems endless but no one seems accountable.
Can they not be adapted surely? 50million masks can't just get thrown in landfill .would wearing earsavers not make them suitable for use ?

These 50 million? Or a different 50 million? I’m sure that due to the rigorous vetting and tendering process that the experts were able to secure the correct PPE? Just asking for a Nation being ripped off...
And this is why the government being corrupt matters. They've handed millions of pounds to a company because they have a government trade adviser working for them, but didn't even get masks that were up to standard. That's our tax money handed over for nothing.
After using the masks, where the hell are they going to end up, can see they will be just dumped and end up in the landfill sites as most could end up in the sea. Just lets burn the lot, as all surgeon's need to wear them anyway, even when this crap of covid-19 was here.

Think NHS management is going to have a lot to answer for when the enquiry gets underway. Sending the elderly back to care homes without testing the PPE shortage not looking good
After using various masks and respirators in heavy industry for 30 years you learn the wrong ppe is as much use as no ppe.

Any air you breath that doesn’t go through the mask is potentially contaminated, so you need a tight seal. All these mask wearing zombies walking around with poorly fitting masks, all wasting their time and money.
They won’t be wasted, those masks will be sent to shops across the UK for the he public to buy so the government can claw back lost revenue. Not good enough for the NHS but good enough for everyone else.
