Rishi Sunak has said progress towards net zero by 2050 will be done in a 'proportionate and pragmatic way'

Asked today if he will stand up to his own MPs who think the net zero agenda has gone too far, Mr Sunak said:"Actually I'm standing up for the British people because I'm also cognisant that we're living through a time at the moment where inflation is high."

"That's to ensure that the cost and circumstances relating to energy efficiency improvement are fair and proportionate to landlords and tenants," he added. Danny Kruger, the co-leader of the New Conservatives group of right-wing MPs, also called for a"rethink about the pace and the mechanism of the change we all want to see".
