Ricky Gervais has defended making jokes about 'taboo subjects' in his new Netflix special. But critics have described some of his jokes as 'dangerous', 'anti-gay' and 'anti trans'.

Ricky Gervais has defended making jokes about "taboo subjects" after his new Netflix special drew criticism.

US LGBT rights group Glaad labelled the show "dangerous", "anti-gay" and "anti trans" after its release on Tuesday. He said: "I think that's what comedy is for, really - to get us through stuff, and I deal in taboo subjects because I want to take the audience to a place it hasn't been before, even for a split second.'These are just jokes'

However, Glaad took issue with his latest routine, with officials posting on the group's Twitter page: "It's full of graphic, dangerous, anti-trans rants masquerading as jokes. He also spouts anti-gay rhetoric an spreads inaccurate information about HIV."

People need to get a grip!!

It was brilliant. Funny..inclusive and well worth the watch.

Ricky is so smart and his jokes are brilliant. We are lucky to have someone this brave and who does not go with the trends because those trends are 'what people want'. People want smart jokes like these. Thanks Ricky.
