Train services are under increasing pressure with delays and overcrowding key concerns for voters.

Further analysis shows how the total number of passengers standing rose during the year, the first since West Midlands Trains took over services from London Midland, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Ghazala Begum commutes every day and is not surprised the train is packed. She said:"There aren't enough train carriages and there are too many people. That's the basic problem." One of the biggest flash points in the run-up to 12 December will be the future of HS2, the high speed rail line from London to Birmingham, Manchester to Leeds.

The Conservatives have commissioned their own review which is due to be completed at the end of the year and have refused to rule out scrapping HS2 altogether.

Labour is not going to win give it a break

Whilst in theory it sounds like an excellent idea. I can imagine the practice would be a nightmare as it was previously nationalised. You need a happy medium where it isn't run for huge profit and not run by an always out of touch government.

This would be a bad idea.

Will be even worse as Govt run.

You probably polled people who are too young to remember what it was like as a nationalised railway.

Rail passenger traffic has doubled and subsidy halved. Now why turn the clocks back to the bad old days of state run enterprises. Government is there to legislate not run businesses.
