The passengers set to miss life events due to the rail strikes

From stag dos to holidays, to concerts and long-planned events - people travelling on Britain's rail network face a week of uncertainty and disruption amid the biggest train strikes in 30 years.Disruption to rail services on non-strike days is also expected. Network Rail has urged passengers to only travel by train if necessary. A strike will also take place across the London Underground on Tuesday.

He says he was due to travel down with his father and best man to Liverpool on Friday, but their train was cancelled."This is heart-breaking for the family and for me personally. "I am having a procedure on my heart tomorrow which is very stressful," the 48-year-old from Portsmouth says. "It might not be one of the strike days but there will be a knock-on effect," he added. "So I may have to get another taxi back home to Portsmouth."Gavin Greaves says he may have to cancel his first trip with his mum in six years

Seriously.

ScottBentonMP Oh nom save the stag do! In other news... Scott Benton celebrates that women lose their rights

ScottBentonMP Like going for an abortion eh ScottBentonMP ?

ScottBentonMP I missed my son's wedding the same day you lot we're partying! Think before you tweet fella

Damn it's almost like these essential workers are important to everyday life and should thus be paid accordingly

L+thinly veiled propaganda+maidenless behaviour+being the bbc

So you agree that rail services are vital to the country? You agree that rail workers are key workers? Cool. Let's start paying them like they are. Here's a reminder that you wouldn't have the weekend off and your kid would be up a chimney if it weren't for unions.

Tough shit

I would pay them more since they provide a valuable service

Workers set to miss meals is a bit worse...

I care more about the workers having to miss meals because of the cost of living crisis. Solidarity to the rail workers and anyone else planning strikes. Maximum disruption!

this is why we need to make sure the workers are paid more, it’s the railway bosses fault that these ppl are missing out not the strikers

CORRECTION: People are missing *life events* due to the Govt's failure to show up to negotiations with .RMTunion. Look around you. Massive queues of lorries at Dover. Absolute chaos at UK airports. ToryRailStrikes. There's a pattern! Govt too busy with CultureWar to govern.

This is pure government propaganda

What is wrong with you?

Walk your ass there

So stag parties and concerts get missed. Boo f*cking hoo! Which of your Tory shills at the BBC is responsible for this drivel?

State propaganda bbc.

Is it worth a read? Wondering if it will mention that there would be no strikes if liberties were not taken by government and bosses that leads to these actions

share a taxi

😂 the depth of the “fuck you” here is amazing

Pay workers more. The government have the power to fix this. NationaliseRail

Brexit…. I have missed out on life events. So will my children and grandchildren. Tax rises brought in by this government will hit families much harder and for much longer than strikes. Join a union

Fck me … you really are a Tory propaganda service aren’t you ? To think people once respected the BBC.

Could you do a piece on the 188,000 people who died before their time because the Govt got the big call - of opening Wetherspoons ASAP 'right'..?

What do they not know how to rent a car? I fear for the British if they ever fins themselves in an actually large landmass.

Tell us of the people who missed funerals while Boris partied.

You should be fined for publishing this trash. Can't even call this reporting, this is just anti-union propaganda. Take it down.

Typical leftie Beeb with your leftie bias being all leftie on the TL.

Seriously, with over a weeks notice these people haven't been able to make alternative arrangements? Coaches, cars, travelling earlier and finding a b&b, hotel, camping or sleeping on a friends sofa.

What about all the life events people missed during Covid lockdowns because they kept to the rules? You know, when the tories were partying and breaking the rules.

tory broadcaster

Funny, you could find examples like this, but caused by the congestion of single-occupancy cars EVERY DAY.

Now focus on strikers who have to use food banks to survive. Those who can't afford a decent home. Those whose income has fallen in real terms for a decade.

People miss life events every day of the year, thanks to this government.

The BBC stooping to new depths. Definitely the Tory Party's lap dog.

Oh my word..... those poor people possibly missing out on stag dos and concerts. Cancel the strike immediately because job losses and below-inflation wage increases just don't compare......

Now do an article for all the workers who are struggling with the cost of living and housing crisis :)

First Brexit, then the pandemic, now the cost of living crisis. Time for a change in government.

People starving and unable to heat their homes, could be an alternative headline. ToryCriminalsUnfitToGovern

WTF are you doing?

Biased reporting

millions are suffering because of this government allowing rampant greed by their corporates mates to cause inflation and bank of E pushing us into preventable recession. This will cause untold misery and deaths yet you work to push the anti union line for your bosses.

rail workers have lives too, have sympathy for once you’re making our country look even worse somehow

Pretty sure that going to food banks regularly because your wages can’t cover the cost of living is worse.

Hi there, what the fuck is this shit?

The Tory propaganda division broadcaster.

The state broadcaster says...

support the striking workers, no matter where you're from! we all have solidarity in our class!

This is pathetic

So? That’s your take on the current events? 🥃😒

That’s tragic, I hope they give the striking workers what they want to end it soon, what’s taking them so long

How sad. Let's give those striking workers the wages and benefits they're demanding so we won't have this problem.

I'm more worried about all the staff who are missing out on happy lives by struggling paycheck to paycheck.

This is so, so deeply weird. Aren't you supposed to be impartial as you're publicly funded? Only a lunatic could pretend you're not coming down hard on the side of big business and CEOs rather than workers and organized labor.

Wow bbc BBC 🗑

Boo fucking hoo. Pay your workers.

Isnt that the point of the strike?

shut up

This is very Fox News of you...

You really are just a UKGov propagandist mouth piece

It's weird how it doesn't mention anywhere in that article why the rail workers are striking, and also that BBC doesn't have a state owned media tag

lmao wonder what the purpose of this article is 🤔

who gives a shit

Tough Shit. It's solidarity forever, not solidarity until it's a mild inconvenience.

Boohoo. If rail workers are so essential then pay them more.

Sounds like the rail workers got y'all over a barrel and you should just give them what they want then.

Guess the bosses should give workers what they want and end the problem. They can do it whenever they want

The BBC pushing propaganda to discredit a strike? What a surprise I'm shocked 😲 lol

This is like an article in “Chat” magazine or something! It’s embarrassing 🙈 it’s misleading, and it’s not impartial. More shame on the Tory propaganda machine at the BBC

What about missing important things because they can't afford the fare? What about them?

ok so give them what they want

Wow, sounds like management is being very unreasonable. Shocking they are creating this problem by not taking care of their workers.

You can just go ahead and change all your BBC branding to blue, no one is fooled.

what about the things workers miss out on

Then support what it is the people striking need to survive. Its almost as if they want to work.

Sounds like these rail workers have an important job then eh? Maybe their demands should be met asap!

i’m gonna guess the people on strike would also rather be doing other stuff and aren’t on strike for fun

grim simping for the government

Aye, the rail companies should give the unions what they want

Cry more

Lol

👍

Calm down, have some milk

Good to see Boris's Bullshit Corporation in full swing today. How about doing a piece about who missed life events because they were killed by government Covid policies?

Awww the people of Ukraine feel your pain .

Let’s not forget the end of life events people missed, with their dear loved ones due to lockdown rules as our government partied and broke those very rules…

Damn maybe the workers should've been paid more

Fuck me. You really are turning into the press office of the tory party.

Yeah it’s a shame they didn’t pay the workers, if they had none of this would’ve happened and the workers could afford to live, just imagine how nice that would be

Maybe they should join the strikes so they end faster

Oh do foxtrot Oscar, BBC. How many 'life events' did people miss out on during the ridiculous lockdowns, while our politicians - who knew damned well there was NOTHING to be frightened of - partied the nights away? Stop shilling for the govt and stand with workers. RMTStrike

Just gonna forget about rail workers who died of COVID then

Haven’t they heard of cars, buses and taxis?

Great job, state media.

Pay the workers what they deserve then

It's hardly been at a moment's notice!

This isn’t news, hope this helps

The fools who expect the BBC to conduct journalism

Technically not passengers though?

Sounds like the value that the rail workers provide by their labor is considerable and deserving of fair compensation.

Sounds to me like the government should step in and ensure all railway workers' wages keep up with inflation then, eh? Since they're vital to the continued operation of the country?

Nobody needs a stag party.

Cheers grantshapps more like ...

Sounds like the bosses should really get on paying their workers then

It's incredible just how important it is that rail workers do their jobs Seems like they should be paid a lot more

strikes are meant to inconvenience people that's the point

BBC not out itself as the state propaganda outlet it is challenge (impossible)

So you're saying that rail workers are critical workers and the entire nation relies on them. They're important. So why don't you pay them that way? As opposed to say, the £200k we pay to Laura Kuenssberg every year. No one would notice if she went on strike.

A stag do is NOT a critical life event! Maybe, do an article about people whose cancer treatments were cancelled during lockdown and they subsequently died.

I remember when the BBC was considered a good example of journalism. What a horrible death.

It's disgraceful the government has forced this. Now I'd love to see the BBC talk to workers who aren't paid enough to survive this cost of living crisis. Then they can interview the rail bosses who take home £600k p/a.

hell yes!!!! workers rights baybeee!!!

Cry more

This story really highlights how important rail workers are

Sounds like the railroad bosses are causing problems for everyone. They should stop treating their workers and customers so badly.

get a coach, if you can't get a train, not difficult. They knew this was happening weeks ago, why aren't they using alternative transport?

Imagine your biggest concern being having to eat Chinese food instead of going to a concert, during a global pandemic. Must be nice. People are dying. Solidarity with all striking workers, we see what you're doing, BBC.

Guess that means rail workers should be compensated for their surplus value

Isn’t that the point of striking?

BORING

The way it should work - BBC political editor reads piece and says ‘this isn’t even a news story and has no validity’, now go away and write a proper story about why the rail workers are striking in the first place and then I’ll edit that!

Strikers are the public.

get the fuck outta here LMAO

OHHH NO! NOT THEIR LIFE EVENTS!!!!

Support the workers Sorry for those impacted but it was nice of the BBC to track them down to help push an anti-atrike sentiment.

Back in 1972 was at state school hoping to be one of 3 in the year to get to uni (no-one did) - NUT went on strike so O levels cut from 9 to 4 so could not go to uni - life not ruined but I have loathed the unions ever since

Do you care about workers missing life events due to low pay or work conditions?

Then pay workers

Since you are *supposedly* obsessed with 'balance', please can you direct me to the article you have published about thousands of essential workers who are struggling to heat and eat due to endless real-terms pay cuts? You must have one, right?

Whenever Americans start to pine for increased rail in US cities, headlines like this always seem to come up. Cars don't go on strike.

Support the strikers.

What about the workers who need a pay increase while the companies they work for earn millions?

reported this tweet for just being plain stupid

U can walk england is tiny

Bad thinking

SupportTheRailWorkers

Power to the unions, power to the workers. Fuck your wedding.

How about now you cover all the rail workers lives disrupted because they get terrible pay and unsafe working conditions

This is BLATANT propaganda. Tory mouthpiece bbc 🤬

Wow, so impartial!

Impartial ?

Tory propaganda you’re as bad as the s*n

They never heard of National Express?

yeah we get it journos aren't working class who cares

100 private firms run UK Railways..they got £17 Billion taxpayers money in 2020..they cut Workers wages..increased fares..as Executive pay and dividends rose massively. Support the RMT - Nationalise the Rail Industry

Some people are missing a decent life because of Tory cuts and brexit, not just life events, no food, no heating, no new clothes for kids, no holidays, focus on that instead of being a mouthpiece for the fascists stripping away our rights.

Other forms of transport are available mind you!

FFS!

I mean, isn't that the point of a strike? Weird story from the BBC, more like a Conservative Home blog.

'Life events' seems to mean 'events'.

Sorry, you're not entitled to a train. You have the privilege of a train as long as the workers are happy to run them. That is a prerequisite! If the workers aren't happy the train doesn't run

Tim Davie - BBC Director-General, former Tory candidate Richard Sharp - chairman of BBC board donated hundreds of thousands of pounds to the Conservative Party, Robbie Gibb - former Tory aide newly appointed to BBC board Any wonder BBC news now acts like an organ of Tory HQ?

Very, very poor journalism. Shocking.

Tory propaganda everywhere

Why even bother pretending you’re anything other than Tory PR now? It’s such a shame. I used to respect your news output and now you’re…this. Parroting government talking points unthinkingly, pushing their propaganda. It’s so sad.

Boo fricken hoo

Don't you feel uncomfortable pushing the Tory agenda? No. Probably not.

What, you mean like people did during Covid while No10 were having a party? (Pick any day, there’s bound to have been one)!

Maybe some of the passengers also have shit low paid jobs they’d like to better?

What the shit is this?

BBC News? More like Tory News.

Got to love framing it as a life event to go see Yes but apparantly an extra hour on the bus is too much

Careful , your bias is showing.

Scabs

Boo hoo. Cry me a river. Have people heard of….taxis? 😏😏

Shapps has a lot to answer for

And here is the BBC doing their level best to tow the government line…

She suggests two methods of transport and refuses both of them. Drive is shorter than the train.

Will you be doing a second report on the rail staff (and others) missing out on life events due to financial hardship? No. I thought not

Scab

We see you BBC 👀 ToryOligarchy

Almost as if bicycles, care, taxis or getting a lift from your mate no longer exist for 24hours

Always the fault of the striking workers, never those that have the power to give them fairer working conditions and pay... Maybe instead of making the strikers look like the bad guys, put it on the higher ups and government officials allowing for their exploitation.

There's a lot of people can't afford 'life events' anymore, eating and paying bills is beyond a struggle. Talk about shilling for the government line.

What utter rubbish. The trains for my sister's hen do got cancelled due to storms back in Feb. You know what we did? Got in cars and drove!

Drivel.

The creatures outside looked from GBeebies to BBC News, and from BBC News to GBeebies, and from GBeebies to BBC News again; but already it was impossible to say which was which

Bren4Bassetlaw We are not serfs, its not the feudal system, its not greed that drives people to take action!

So the government nobble the newspapers- now the BBC news. This story is a pile of 💩

Wonder how many life events are missed because of ticket price gauging by bastard profiteering rail companies.

Anti union propaganda from the BBC here, really disgusting

Oh boo hoo

this article is anti-strike propaganda - it serves no actual news value. without strikes and unions we would not have weekends, bans on child labour, paid leave, minimum wage or pensions. I stand with the striking RMT members and their demands.

Give them a pay rise too so they can all hire a limo

Fucking hell

Shithousery

MP’s got another £2,200/yr payrise this year. If it’s good enough for them, then why not for the rest of us?

Emotional blackmail...

What a load of wingers ! Apart for the operation which the guy will make , the others are just events .

Now do one about the life events people missed while Boris and the gang were partying during lockdowns

I see Pravda is at it again

The BBC is conveying what people are saying, not criticising the strikers. It’s a potential huge disappointment for them, although there are ways round, coaches, cars.

This is outrageous. The BBC IS a public broadcaster- this isn’t balanced, unbiased or fair reporting. The headline feelS like pure propaganda.

Why are you trying to stir up hatred towards the rail industry ? They're striking as a last resort as the government are not cooperating. The government were quick enough to sign off giving MP's a £2200 payrise which they wouldn't of needed. Solidarity with the rail workers.

Impartial?

Gaslighting

5 days of inconvenience to support thousands of workers' jobs? It's a no brainer to anyone with a heart, soul or conscience

BBC supporting the Tory Party as it tries to sow division 🙄 We stand in solidarity with all workers fighting for better conditions ✊

Due to the rail bosses unrealistic pay offer, you mean.

Good old BBC impartiality. Boot lickers the lot of you.

In most cases there are a billion other ways to reach your destination. Also, those complaining about the strikes might find themselves in need of such a strike one day.

It’s a hard pill to swallow due to the benefits, but, unions have destroyed so many industries in the west.

Life events were missed during Covid whilst Johnson partied. Life events missed because flights were cancelled. The govt does nothing to avert a rail strike. Tell it as it is please.

This is what you concentrate on BBC?

What a load of tosh news story. Missing a stag do…..really!

Sorry put people have had time to rearrange other transport, from busses to cars, you would think every Brit in the country, went on the train every day

Oh dear, workers will just have to lie down and watch their pay and conditions be trampled over. We’ll, you wouldn’t want to inconvenience anyone

Joseph Goebbels is the new Minister of Enlightenment and Propaganda for the BBC now I see.

Up the RMT! Down with capitalist state propaganda

Stop voting for shitty politicians. Fuck around and find out I guess.

Scrub 'because of rail strikes ', and enter 'because of govt hostility and incompetence '. Fixed it for you.

I thought this was a joke headline from MentalHeadline then but realised it was just the Beeb… this bypass an editor or two?

BBC has taken sides.

Strikes are really fu*king with my Glasto plans this week. Proper headache. However, I’m right on side with RMT. There’s more important things like decent wages and working standards than my ‘life events’. Go RMTunion. We’re right behind ya! ✊

Actually missing life events are great, get an Xbox and stop whinging

Strike would be pointless if everyone got to where they needed to be

The workers miss major life events by not getting proper pay. If you are to point fingers at anyone it should be the corporate executives who could've given them proper pay and not pushed them to strike.

BBC this is a party political broadcast for the Conservatives and breaches independence of the BBC and its reporting. There is no balance of views and thus officially make a formal complaint against this one party news

DefundTheBBC

'People not being paid enough are missing out on a decent quality of life.' There, fixed it for you.

Why not making an article of the struggle of workers in strikes? Oh wait - yeah, people could emphasize, take on the example and join a union

Earning the Conservative approval tokens again I see. Short sighted.

Stop doing agitprop for the Tories.

Coaches are still running

My heart bleeds. Get the bus ! do better !

10DowningStreet SkyNews ukhomeoffice That's awful, they need stopped in their tracks from dictating the public's rail travel movement & for adding further distress the public are already suffering from post Covid and struggling economy with rising inflation and energy costs.

Good , hope majority of the BBC news workers don’t make it to work. save us some of this shitposting

Have a word with this useless government then

Scab BBC

Will BBC be interviewing individuals who had their lives impacted Brexit? Like businesses ruined or fishermen & farmers who feel betrayed? No you won’t. Why? Because you’re doing the Tories’ work. Newsnight Brexit

Scab Dos

The rail workers set to miss life events due to pay cuts and poor working conditions

Scab rag.

Don't worry, they're selling off Channel4 so they'll probably have to ignore what's really going on as well. We need some news with balls in this country. thebbc is screwed now whichever way it goes, can't win... Nearly got to that century innings...🏳️‍🌈📺

I generally like the BBC and am against privatisation, however the news output and political coverage is utterly disgraceful. You have aligned with this toxic corrupt government that will ultimately take the BBC down with them, which Murdoch is hoping for.

So… we are totally skipping over the workers who miss life events, time with loved ones etc because they can’t afford to live as it is? The ones who need to use food banks to get by and you’re somehow twisting it to make the hard workers look bad?! 🤦🏼‍♀️

State sponsored media trash get in the bin

And,it is you and me,the taxpayer who pays for any raise the rail workers get. So yes, during these tough times we’ll need to tighten our belts even further to give these people what they want. United we stand, what a joke!!

Taxis cars buses planes boats ....

Are you going to report this? For balance? No, of course not.

Fucking hell and the right have the cheek to call the BBC leftist propaganda

ScottBentonMP A stag do isn't a life event FFS

Oh ffs! 🙄

It would be cheaper for 4 people to share a cab than to pay 4 individual rail fares.

It's not like these are a surprise

We've all just missed *two years* of our lives and life events because of covid. 3 days is certifiably more than do-able.

This is what he’s missing out on. Getting rat arsed in a pub 😡

This is on the nose, even for the beeb

✊️

The guy concerned about his stag party 🧐 My advice: 🚌↪Liverpool 🚢↪New World 🐎↪Skinwalker Ranch 🛸↪Space Any woman who skins herself to remove her eyebrows, dips her face in Caramac, then uses a coal to draw on eyebrows... a rail strike is the least of your worries

Did Grant Shapps himself write this?

🤣

trash article

Out and out right wing propaganda

Not even going to try and mask the anti-worker propaganda then ?

this isn’t balanced. this is stoking division between passengers and workers with valid grievances. i’d expect this kind of trash from a right-wing murdoch paper - not a public service broadcaster.

Seriously ..shameful!

The coach companies about to make a mint

Oh shh BBC. Remember impartiality?

Grant Shapps moonlighting for the BBC now? How much government propaganda in one story

1. Stag do. Could get a coach 2. Heart operation. Paying £165 for taxi 3. Holiday to Wales shortened by 2 days after rearranging 4. A gig. Refusing to go by coach as it’s too long a journey Bar the operation, the others are petty first world problems 🤦🏻‍♀️

Government propaganda masquerading as news.

Boris the Bent tells the BBC to jump, and you jump. This is surprisingly weak government propaganda. A measure of your party’s desperation.

I don’t care if you miss your wedding or your dad’s funeral, climate change is WAY MORE IMPORTANT! Normal people should be banned from travelling.

Look everyone down in the comments, you have every rights to support the strikes but everyone also has a right to be upset about them ruining their plans. Please be kind.

You should see how much stuff people miss because of the closing of lines, permanent reductions to services and chronic underfunding in the name of the free market

I can't wait until you are privatised. We might actually see an improvement when you aren't looking for pats on the head from the government.

Shit happens 👍

What about those who repeatedly miss life events because of the excessive cost of train travel. Have the BBC reported on subsidies larger than British Rail to boost the profits of overseas owned rail companies. Nationalise rail now. weownit

It’s causing disruption….. that’s the point!

Hmm! There’s something disturbing about this head line. Maybe we should have said ‘People will get cold if we don’t send miners into the black hell to dig it up’? People must always have a right to withdraw their labour if they feel there’s a grievance.

The great reset, unions would be abolished if the tories could believe me

Dear BBC. Just stop
