Customers have long criticised the firm for the quality of services provide in the south east

Go-Ahead group has admitted to serious errors and failings in the way it ran the Southeastern rail franchise.Back in September, transport secretary Grant Shapps said that since October 2014, Southeastern hadHe described this as a ‘significant breach’ of the company’s agreement to operate routes covered by he contract.

Mr Shapps added at the time: ‘The decision to take control of services makes unequivocally clear that we will not accept anything less from the private sector than a total commitment to their passengers and absolute transparency with taxpayer support.’ In response, he announced the Government’s Operator of Last Resort, a unit within the Department for Transport, would take over the day-to-day running of the franchise.
