The RAF this afternoon sent two Typhoon jets to monitor a pair of Russian bombers after they approached the UK airspace.
The two Russian ‘Blackjack’ Tupolev Tu-160 long-range bombers were spotted in international airspace just off the north east coast. A spokesman for the RAF said that the Typhoons were scrambled from RAF Lossiemouth to monitor the jets.The incident took place as Nato forces are in Scotland for a training exercise named Exercise Joint Warrior.
The spokesman said: ‘We can confirm that RAF quick reaction alert Typhoon aircraft from RAF Lossiemouth scrambled to monitor two Blackjack bombers while they were in the UK area of interest.Advertisement
