Oxford City Council had "not envisaged" money from government would be used for free school meals
Oxford City Council says families are able to get vouchers up to £15 per child over the half-term holidays. The decision comes after a row over extending free school meals to cover the school holidays continued into its second week. But Prime Minister Boris Johnson is facing mounting pressure from former ministers and some Tory MPs to reverse the move.
It said the scheme was funded by a £132,000 grant from the government via Oxfordshire County Council to provide food for "those most in need", but added it was "not envisaged to cover free school meals during the holidays".
from money that they have already received from the govt
Making good use of the £2.5m additional funding they have received from RishiSunak
OxfordCity I have organised in my village in Oxfordshire in November reversed advent calendar where members of the community put an item in a box for 24 days in there house and I will be sending the boxes to the charity’s to help people who are needing that help ... any charity’s accepting?

This is literally the money the government have given them to use. Why is that not I. Your headline?
THEY ARE NOT FREE. NOTHING IS FREE. EXCEPT YOUR EXISTENCE, AND THAT'S PAID FOR BY ME
Full story please, wankers.
“Free”
Out of the money they were allotted by the Government.
Paid for by the government
Money given to them by central government £506,000 for emergency funding for food and essential supplies
Lord Winston adds his voice to that of the Children’s Commissioner calling for the government to act on FreeSchoolMeals The Head of National Food Strategy, Henry Dimbleby, said school holiday clubs were a more effective spend than putting the same amount into universal credit
Oxford council tax payers you mean.
Thanks RishiSunak xx
Paid for by the taxpayers.
'Oxford Council using the extra funding given to them by the government for the purpose it was intended.' Fixed it for you. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
With money provided by the government, you cherry picking hacks.
That is what all local authorities should do. Without being told by Boris.
Will the BBC give a free licence?
It is the job of councils to distribute funds in their local area as track and trace would work better on a local level.
Why are we paying for school meals where parents are earning north of £50k? It’s a burden on the not so wealthy
No it wont. the council DON'T have any money. It will be the local taxpayers, with higher Council Tax bills that pay for it.
BBC ...it's not free meals...it just means someone else paid for it .I know when you threaten old people with prison to pay yourselves it can be easy to forget that money has to be earned on the real world.
Perhaps that's the money the government has given them for that reason
No, they’ll use taxpayers money given to them by the government
OxfordCity Your not paying Facts Facts please. The taxpayers paying it's not coming out the pockets of the council is it? You were given money already from the conservative administration Nothing like fake news!!!!!!
Marcus Rushford, age 23, said that his family went hungry. So he was born when Blair came to power and so went hungry during the Blair & Brown Labour years. Remember that next time when criticising a tory government's £60 million to councils & £16 million to food charities.
Very generous of them just hope people don’t take advantage
We should be naming and shaming all councils who have received additional funding from government to support those in need and who have chosen not to provide meals for children in the holidays. We shouldn’t immediately blame the government for everything.
any news on Murders ,rapes ,service men living on the streets
BBCPolitics Is that using the £500K provided to them by govt recently?
SpelthorneBC also on the ball 👍

the MarcusRashford movement beautiful
Why wouldn't they ? They've already had money from the Gov to pay for it.
I am by no means saying all parents in need are the same, but I once knew a woman who complained she had no money to feed her kids, giving them tinned hot dog sausages and cheap bread buns, whilst holding a fag in one hand and a can of lager in the other.
Using money given to them by our Conservative government.
Tell Oxford City Council the 'moral duty' lies with parents. It really is that simple.
this is terrible news
Where in Oxford council was that photo taken?
