Advice on staying warm included wearing extra layers, eating porridge and cuddling pets

One of Britain's largest energy suppliers has apologised after it suggested customers cuddle pets and eat porridge to stay warm.

Ovo Energy said it was “embarrassed” after sending the advice in a blog “containing energy-saving tips” to its SSE customers. It was removed following criticism, including from North Bristol MP Darren Jones.'We are embarrassed' In a statement, an Ovo spokesperson said: "Last week a link to a blog containing energy saving tips was sent to customers. We understand how difficult the situation will be for many of our customers this year.

"We are working hard to find meaningful solutions as we approach this energy crisis, and we recognise that the content of this blog was poorly judged and unhelpful. The blog was posted on a now-deleted SSE webpage, which offered tips on how customers could stay warm this winter. The advice included wearing extra layers, eating porridge and cuddling pets., which first reported the story, Mr Jones, chair of the Commons business select committee, called the advice "insensitive".

"Being told to put on a jumper instead of turning on your heating if you can't afford it, at a time of such difficulty for so many families, is plainly offensive," the Labour MP told the newspaper.“I'm not sure who signed off a marketing campaign telling people to wear a jumper and eat porridge instead of turning on the heating if you can't afford it."

Not the only ones partying tho was there?!!!

We need to tell this to landlords who don’t allow pets - they are necessary for us to keep warm

I’m so cold that I haven’t let go of my cat for 48 hours in line with Ovo’s advice.

'And start a fire by rubbing two sticks together'...This is 2022 right? 🤔

No need to apologise, this is great very practical advice

It’s what husbands have been telling their wives for years 😂

Well I already eat porridge and wear extra layers. As much as I would love a pet, I can't afford one because of my outgoings (including my energy bills) OVOEnergy I feel the cold the worst when I am working cos I'm just not moving so star jumps? I think I will just walk around

If I cuddle my goldfish I'm likely to get wet

Throw them on the fire

Sensible advice

I am not cuddling my Jack Russell, he gets far too excited 😀

This is what our 3rd world country has become now

There will be no pets to cuddle as they’ll be sold off to put £10 on the gas meter tho

Wtf is wrong with cuddling pets?! I know I don’t force it on my cat, but she’s the one that settles into my lap for snuggles and I always take advantage.

🤷🏻‍♂️🤣😂😅
