Overdose deaths in New York City have risen 36 percent over the last year as state officials issued an order that prevents NYPD officers from interfering with public drug use.

In just one year NYC drug overdose deaths spiked 36 percent, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report revealed. 2,243 people across NYC died from drug overdoses in a 12-month period ending March 31, compared to the 1,653 who died in the same period in 2020.
