Otters are being seen in areas where they have not been seen for 60 years, say ecologists.

The River & Canal Trust is researching whether or not the otter was 'just passing through'

It was seen swimming near a pub in the Wyrley and Essington Canal by walker Sarinder Joshua Daroch, who was quick enough to take a picture. "We know we have about 10 otters with territories along our canals, and its amazing that they're now being seen in areas where they have been absent for over 60 years."Since the 1950s their numbers on Britain's rivers declined due to habitat loss, persecution and the use of pesticides

The trust should be able to tell from its recent otter survey whether there was an established otter territory there or whether the one seen near the Nickelodeon pub, Wednesfield, was "just passing through".

Good for him !

What a catfish...

Two questions 1 how the hell did he get a rod and line? 2 is he now boring his friends and family talking about his day fishing and the one that got away?

There goes the fish stock.

He’ll never manage to export them.

Cuter than the f****** Eastern Europeans currently decimating our waterways

The picture though says otter spotter spotted

That’ll upset local fishermen

We have a mink, River Chelmer.

Even the British otters are now able to catch more fish!

How long before the local kids brick it to death ? Trust me I'm from there.

It then went on to catch a shopping trolley and a traffic cone.

The otter looks very content in the habitat, wonderful to see these creatures making a come back in the wild 😁

It is ok except for all the fish watching!

I hope he had an up to date license.

Poacher!

I am assuming this is a very good thing. Journalists would enlighten us how he caught fish in the canal.
