BBC removes trailer for new documentary about Oscar Pistorius over criticism it did not name his murder victim Reeva Steenkamp

The BBC has removed a trailer for a new documentary about Oscar Pistorius after criticism that it did not name his murder victim Reeva Steenkamp. But many users criticised the fact that neither the trailer nor the tweet named Steenkamp, who was killed in 2013.the BBC said in a statement."We have removed the trail and it will be replaced by something more representative of the series, which examines in detail a number of complex issues connected to her murder.

Olympic and Paralympic sprinter Pistorius was sentenced to six years in prison for killing Steenkamp, his girlfriend, in his home in Pretoria, South Africa, in 2013.for US network ESPN, but will be broadcast by the BBC in the UK.: "A total failure to even name the woman he killed. Shame on the BBC." He also criticised the broadcaster for describing it as a "remarkable documentary series" in the press release.

How tone-deaf do you have to be to create and promote a film about a murderer and call it 'remarkable'.The media continues to fail in their duty to report fatal domestic abuse responsibly.

Remove the documentary. Simples.

They should do more than scrap the trailer. They should scrap the whole programme. It’s a disgrace - bbcthree should be utterly ashamed of itself for planning to broadcast this Steenkamp ReevaSteenkamp

Why are they glorifying a murderer? He doesn't deserve a second in the spotlight. Shame on them. ReevaSteenkamp we will never let your name be forgotten.

BBC is turning a series of horrific criminal cases into titilating soap operas. Enough serious documentaries have been produced about Savile and Pistorious. They’re criminal not celebs.

It's a trailer. Whatever happened to the centre-left? Liberalsim and common sense? People seemed to have become Leftists. More totaliatarian. If we don't like or agree then stop, ban, block, cancel, remove.

Congratulations!!!Very well done!!! Best Wishes God blessing you all🇮🇳💕💥

Michael_AW77 Why glorify a murderer at all?

Sickening. There are plenty of disabled sporting heroes we could be focusing on; Mark Ormrod the Royal Marine who stood on an IED, multiple medal winning triple amputee. Oscar Pistorius was by all accounts an abusive man, now serving 13 years for murderer. Fuck him.

Oh BBC! It just keeps getting worse and worse. So because he’s disabled, he’s now the victim. Suppose that follows your current philosophy. All you need now for the icing on the cake is a documentary about someone like Jimmy Saville.

What pisses me off just as much is that in this report the lady is constantly referred to as Steenkamp, not Miss or Ms, in the way criminals are referred to only by their last names. Show some respect please for an innocent murder victim.

I wonder if it’s the same production company that produced “The Chop”

Quite right. Hoping the actual documentary isn’t as offensive to Reeva Steenkamp

A glaring oversight even by the BBC standard. How do you do a documentary on a convicted murderer and 'forget' to mention his victim? Was Steenkamp British? 🤪🙄

Remove the entire thing and say sorry for offending Reeva Steenkamp's family

Should remove the whole piece

And apparently it is going to be an “inspirational “ story 🤦‍♂️

I have cancelled my licence fee. I will donate it to support victims of domestic abuse in Reeva’s memory. ReevaSteenkamp

Guns... No gun and Reeva might been alive today.

Celebrity worship by the Beeb, they can't help it. He was a hell of a good disabled runner.

Rightly so.

WE need a complete clear out of totally incompetent BBC staff, how many fuck gaffes do they manage and still keep their over inflated paying jobs, one gaffe after another..

Hes a murderer thats it who would want to watch this.

Good why did it even air? Glorifying murder Forgetting to mention Reeva Not difficult to see how that's wrong

Hold on....isn't the BBC making a Jimmy Savile drama ?

Why?

Good

if he had blackened her up with a tin of black shoe polish he would have gotten away with it!' Then I realised how in bad taste that was... as if Oscar would have a tin of shoe polish.....

His murder victim? Please don't show this documentary.

BBC making documentaries no one wants to see, more waste of the licence fee and more reason to switch them to a fully commercial model without public funding.

WHY do we need to watch a documentary about a murderous, lying shi*head?

On the day a police officer escapes a murder conviction for “accidentally” strangling his girlfriend. Reeva was central to this story ...she was the victim, her family and friends will mourn her for ever. DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth justiceforwomen femicide

not interested, what do we have to be reminded of ?

Shameful that it even went out like that.

Good.

She won't like that!

Yet another own goal by the BBC

Oscar Pistorius it nothing more than a murder!!!

Or just bin the documentary? No need to make one about him at all

Ah don't worry about it! Not like Oscar Pistorius is going to be jumping up and down in fury 🤣🤣🤣

The BBC is *trash*.

Knobheads

There is always someone who's gonna be triggered. It was just a trailer. I'm sure she would have been named in the full showing of the programme.

It's almost as if the BBC sympathises with the girlfriend murdering athlete more than the girlfriend

Are they trying to make him a hero again...?
