The move comes as an investigation revealed debt collectors working for British Gas forced their way into the homes of vulnerable customers

After Centrica announced it was suspending all forced installations, EDF said it hadEDF, the UK's second-largest supplier, said it had applied for almost 14,000 warrants in 2022 but not acted on around half after contacting customers and agreeing other means of controlling arrears. The company is understood to have acted out of caution rather than in response to evidence of bad practice.

A Scottish Power spokesperson said:"We would not switch a customer to prepayment without advanced notice and installing a prepayment meter is always a last resort, only after we have exhausted all other options to speak to and work with customers on debt repayment. "We deplore the behaviours reported and have suspended all warrant installations while a thorough investigation takes place.""Every year we pause installs in December and January, and we have extended this moratorium this winter. It's only ever a last resort if a customer doesn't engage with us for at least six months - we will always find a way to help if they do. And even then, if there is any sign of vulnerability we will not install a pre-payment meter.

Where is the investigation into the court approving these warrants is the real question!

With court warrants. There is a problem with that too isn't there?

Freedom of speech gone and now houses being entered illegally by power suppliers. It's beginning to feel a lot like China !

I hope yesterday was a wake up call for many. How the poor & vulnerable have been treated. I have seen it for years, used for TV programmes. People think you're making a condition up, because of stereotypes and stigma they see on TV. It has to stop, so this does not happen again.

What a disgusting way to treat vulnerable people by British Gas. Where were Ofgem here? Only for the investigative reporting has this been exposed and clearly Ofgem are asleep at the wheel.

Forced their way into homes. Shit. Come try that where I live. That’ll get you shot up around here.

Bottom line - FACTs A magistrate or magistrates or a judge gave British Gas the “Warrant” to enter the home/homes those applications MUST have originated from British Gas company policy SO yes BG are criminals ( allegedly ) and must be prosecuted for evasion of the homes 🤷‍♂️

British Gas need to make a profit, too… 💀

Dystopia Britain

Inspiring bills that people can't pay this is what the British gas has said so put these pre-paid metres in that's a lie that you skipping the point here they put in these metres in and if you haven't got any money to put in and you're still getting charged that is the point..

the news is come out that the regulators have told British gas to stop forcing prepaid metres on customers. Is that it so British gas get away with charging customers for gas that they've not even used with these metres. so British gas think they're gonna get away with it?

...and the ones who have already had them forced upon them? Are British Gas going to remove them and reinstall the original meter? I won't hold my breath.

Isn’t it a crime to break into people’s homes?!

when you think about are you surprised they are causing people to go into debt so make people pay more with prepayment to make more money

Get rid of them all and nationalise it all back. Disgusting and the government won't do jack

Strange that they don’t manage to find their way into vulnerable customers who have been waiting for over two months with repeated cancellations to repair 🆙a condemned boiler then 🤷‍♀️
