The current acting chief executive of Nottingham's hospitals will retire at the end of the year, the trust has confirmed. Rupert Egginton assumed the top role at Nottingham University Hospitals after the departure of Tracy Taylor in October 2021.
The former financial officer will support incoming chief executive Anthony May as deputy from September 1 before leaving in December. NUH chair Nick Carver says in his report, dated Thursday, July 28, that he has shown "substantial commitment" to the trust". In his own - and final - report, Mr Egginton thanked colleagues but said there was still much to do. "I would like to start by thanking my colleagues across Nottingham University Hospitals for the incredible dedication they have displayed to our patients over what has been a very challenging time for the NHS and for NUH," he said.
News of Mr Egginton's departure comes at a challenging time for NUH, with Nottinghamshire's healthcare system declaring a critical incident earlier this week. The trust's maternity services at Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital are also under heavy scrutiny, with senior midwife Donna Ockenden leading a review into the department.
