For nurses, they say studying in England must be made more attractive. The report warns this has had a negative effect and calls for the introduction of a £5,200 annual grant for student nurses.
And the think tanks say this will be a real challenge given Brexit and the global shortage of nurses. For GPs, the report recommends a different approach, as international recruitment is extremely difficult given the language requirements for GPs and the unique nature of general practice in the NHS. This could include patients with back pain and joint problems and those needing advice for minor conditions and requiring medicine reviews. The idea of using other staff to support GPs is already part of policy.Training places for doctors and nurses are also being increased, by 25%.
BBCPolitics Nurse Bursaries need a huge comeback. I’d make them even more than before and increase nurse pay.
So reduce the amount of patients,
Blair ramped up salaries in certain sectors but failed miserably to make sufficient money available for the future needs.
Fake scaremongering!
HostileEnvironment austerity policies have caused this. Since 2010, the lowest amount of GDP (1%) spent on NHS in its 70 yr history. Deliberate run down by this govt.
It might help the nhs if bursaries were bought back for student nurses whilst training, it was not a lot of money but it certainly helped. Why with the prospect of not qualifying, the failure rate is high, would you spend thousands of pounds on loans, the nhs must pay
Then it is clearly too big?
Headline should read : NHS England ‘no chance of training enough staff' ThatsDevolved SayEngland
No one realises that a large number of experienced NHS staff are leaving because of the stress and work pressures. It’s unbearable and lack of support & understanding from both Managers & the general public only adds to the stress
Shows how inefficient throwing money at problems can be especially when the money chucked is a realication of old funds, spread over a long period or simply not enough money Look at all the traditional Tory social service targets they all suffered from the same funding shortfalls
BBCPolitics Well we probably shouldn’t have spent the last 20 years plundering foreign healt services for their staff, should we?
They’ve been saying this for some time. Shows how particularly short sighted this Government’s decision was to stop bursaries.
BBCPolitics Well those responsible should be sacked and get people in who can deliver
Had at least three years notice.
BBCPolitics Freedom of movement is a must for the NHS!
BBCPolitics I attended children mental health service yesterday with my grandchild. The consultant started with apologising for the delays, but stated 90% of staff at Pennine Care were agency staff. They say there a shortage, but not agency staff. Would it be they earn more as agency staff
What a problem
Nhs is turning into a joke and to say we are in the eu and supposedly get all this help etc but it’s under staffed, under pressure surprised it hasn’t gone private yet
BBCPolitics its not like you werent warned the tories were running down the NHS to privatize it. you just dont want to hear it
Maybe try to retain staff with better working conditions and recall back ex employees?
Maybe if they hadn’t scrapped the training schemes they wouldn’t have these problems. I understand they’re starting up again. Might even be able to give some ambition to all these ‘wayward’ teenagers.
Take American nurses... There is an influx!
