It's looking more likely that parents in England "will have many more weeks of home-schooling", the Guardian says, after the government "refused to commit" to reopening schools "even after the Easter holidays". The Tory MP Robert Halfon tells the paper that the state "must do everything possible" to reopen them after the February half-term - even "if it means priority vaccinations" for staff.
It says a poll reveals that a "third of families don't have enough computers for home study". The campaign, it says, has raised £250,000.Dozens of people are pictured out and about in the snow at London's Primrose Hill on the front page of the Times. The paper's top story says the chancellor has backed plans to "force everyone entering Britain to quarantine in a hotel" to "prevent new coronavirus strains jeopardising" mass vaccination.
Im not sure whats hard about this. Kids need school urgent. Just vaccinate all teachers first, im sure we can manage that
the s*n is hardly a news paper, it's toilet paper
Children will be fine, better that than parent who catches Covid and can't look after them.
Just stop all years where they are and restart when this is over or at least better. Hold all years back 1 year that way nobody misses out.
Extend👏 compulsory 👏education 👏to👏 18👏
My kids are working really well remotely, I’m so proud of them. I have them in college, secondary & primary and they’re trying so hard, and teachers comments reflect their efforts. They just miss their friends, and miss being kids 😓I miss not trying to play teacher😍
My kids are thriving at home with the online lessons that are being provided by the school. My only concern is that a lot of kids seem to in school for 1 reason or another and I would hate to think that they are getting a better education than my children.
Madness! Vaccinate everyone who works in the schools, and get them open!!!! Shouldn't be this difficult
Stop calling them ' the lost generation ' . It could have a really negative impact on their confidence and self-worth.
But I remember the paparazzi baying, 3 weeks ago, that all schools must close. Have they any idea, that the public remember these campaigns. Unlike the media, the government will make decisions, based on scientific and medical facts. Not anti government propaganda rhetoric.
Schools were only open for key workers &most at risk kids, far 2many ppl abused their key worker status making it unsafe for teachers, ppl working night shift, evening shift were still sending kids to school or when they had another parent at home, blew it for KWers who did need
The backbenchers will use any excuse to have a moan about lcokdown 🙄 Schools can open while lockdown goes on. It has happened before 🤷🏼♂️
They are not a lost generation!!!!
We should be focusing on those idiots who refuse to follow guidelines goto parties hold weddings with 150 guests, that is where the anger should be pointed the selfish minority things would have been much better
If the country genuinely cared about the kids' futures then we'd close all routes in & out of the country, stay home, mask up & religiously wash our hands, disinfecting everything that came through the door, not just whine that the kids are cluttering up the house during the day.
Keep telling them theyre 'a lost generation' and they will surely act like it in time
Lost generation? What nonsense. You should’ve tried going to a comprehensive school in the late 70s or early 80s, leaving straight to Thatcher’s Britain.
It'll be longer than Easter I'm afraid... our lives before 2020 have gone forever
Once all elderly and vulnerable people are vaccinated, surely the death rate should drop significantly so why can't we all get back to some normality? There's no reason for severe restrictions to be in place indefinitely
May the 'Lost Generation' be found before it is too late. Every kid counts.
Lucky.
It's not just the academic side of this that matters, it's not normal for children not to spend time with their friends on a daily basis. Being cooped up is not good for children.
Not if you go to private school or well off enough to have your own tablet/laptop and wifi Englandlockdown
Well, that's just great. Obviously, I want to keep my child safe but I'm not cut out to be a teacher. There are no live classroom sessions at our school, we just get a timetable for the week and have to get on with it while working full time!
thanks
🥺
