We tried Preston's new Japanese eatery - and it impressed

Trying to name a restaurant type that Preston is missing is an everlasting debate but there's also no denying that Preston's foodie scene has properly stepped it up over the last few years - despite a crippling pandemic.

This is often where Wagamamas swoops in - a chain yes but it delivers consistently good food that means most people don't hold it in the same contempt as we might somewhere like Frankie & Benny's. However, in Meiz - open on Butler Street in what was previously Dice & Donuts - we have yet another jewel in what is fast becoming something of a dining crown. It's a small but bustling room when we visit on a Friday night.

In between, we get a platter of sashimi. This is where the fish is served alone and with no rice. There are options for Nigiri , maki and uramaki . There are lots of people around us asking about this and the serving staff have the answers so don't feel like you have to dive in. The platter is a fresh hit of protein and there's so many combinations you can opt for if you're dipping your toe into sushi for the first time. If that's you, this is the right place to do it.
