Bianca Artwell, 30 and from Rugby in Warwickshire, suffers from a condition which affects her nervous system called Functional Neurological Disorder .
When she arrived at the tills Bianca realised she needed the toilet, something she cannot control because of her FND. Recalling how she was left feeling, Bianca said: ‘I’ve never in my life been treated in such a cold manner. Left in the doorway of a shop with a sign directing people to look at the freak show, with no covering or support.
Bianca was hurt to discover none of the staff were there to offer support during the moment she had an accident.According to the NHS, Functional Neurological Disorder includes neurological symptoms that are genuine, but not due to a disease of the nervous system.
I feel a big pay out heading her way......
And now having read the article that’s shocking behaviour
The point is to raise awareness in retail to deal with similar situations. Staff often aren’t empowered to make decisions, so there should be an escalation route to a decision maker. Don’t forget the security risk of public access to toilets like drugs or terrorism.
My mum has bowl disease and need to use toliet at doctors during lockdown. they wouldnt let her in to use the toliet eventually they did let her in but only after she couldn't move far. It wasnt the doctors it was the recptionist.
Don’t have a short memory and demonise retail staff for lazy journalism.
Very sad situation, however Bianca knew of her condition and the store staff didn’t. Maybe Bianca could of been more prepared…..maybe the journalist could reflect on retail workers being front and centre during the pandemic, whilst they were maybe tapping their keyboard at home
That’s why it’s called River Island. Piss poor service.
