The overall number of executions recorded in the Middle East and North Africa fell from 579 in 2019 to 437 in 2020, Amnesty International said on Wednesday in its annual report on use of the death penalty.
Twenty-three of those people were convicted in cases relating to political violence, after what Amnesty said were grossly unfair trials marred by forced "confessions" and other violations. They also executed three people for crimes that occurred when they were below the age of 18, in violation of international humanitarian law.
Right to life is universal. Death sentence is a way of human rights violation as well. Any country that is proud of executing it's criminals must work on improving the conditions of their prisons and the strength of their laws.
