The government could stop people leaving their homes for exercise if too many people flout existing social distancing rules, for example by sunbathing in parks, the health secretary has said.

What’s this? A crackdown against reality? None of these pics here in in the Tabs show contravention of 2m social distancing rules. What sort of delusional Orwellian not seeing with your own eyes is happening here?

He needs to be concentrating on funding the NHS. It isn’t the healthy people exercising who he needs to be concerned about.

Another policy designed to fail.Getting 100% obedience is impossible Exercise & outdoor time is essential for vit D production and 2 prevent against illness and for good mental health If exercise can be banned; this means we basically now live in a facist country covid19UK

Yet fights still coming in from hotspots all over the world with no measures in place. Why is nobody questioning the government on this absurdity?

Good job then that austerity didn't lead to a significant reduction in police numbers to enforce a tougher lockdown

Difficult to judge many of them too harshly as they live in their rabbit hutch sized flats with no garden. Stratford, Canning Town in Newham being prime examples.

Maybe they are all just getting a dose of herd immunity.

Maybe he should stop companies forcing people to work , rather than socially distanted picnics for god sake !

That's us on lockdown next wk then. sweet

The irony is that the vitamin d from sunbathing is exactly what the respiratory system requires to recover from covid-19. See medical journal articles in the likes of BMJ. Sunbathing should actually be advocated - just do it at distance

Please do

charlotteh71 NO not tougher crackdown on EVERYONE!!! tougher treatment for the idiots!!! Punish THEM not the rest of us doing the proper thing! FFS!

actually agree that excercise exemption may be being misused in some cases, however where is the evidence base that doing starjumps for an hour in a park, is any less likely to spread virus than lying down for an hour in same spot of said park?

Bring it on, the sooner the better, then maybe people may start realising what a lockdown actually is.

Tougher lockdown was always on the cards. Still looking to deflect the blame.

Does that include his own team who where casually chatting in groups in the background as he spoke at the Nightingale Hospital?

He shouldn’t lock us all down because of the idiots who disregard the rules. London and the SE are worst hit, impose such rules on them. One size don’t fit all.

This ain't going to end well old Matty boy.

Uses water cannon filled with soapy water.. Two birds and all that...😆

Good luck. The Brits (not the type that read the Guardian) are a fighting nation. That Tory government knows damn well when to wind its neck back in.

They need to, people are STILL not listening.

Good. They've done it the nice way. If people won't listen then tougher measures are required.

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD BE TOUGHER WE’RE ALL GOOD FOR NOTHINGS

Rather him than, well anyone actually. It’s a tough call but needs to be made. 😷☹️🦠
