A MAN who killed his own DAD after he reduced his allowance has been sentenced to 30 years in jail.
However, Shelley Gilbert- the mother of the convicted and wife of the deceased- said the family hoped her son would be "given as light a sentence as possible." However, from 2014, his parents began urging him to be more self-sufficient, and slowly reduced his allowance until it reached $300 in January 2015.Gilbert Jr. then showed up at his parent's Manhattan home unannounced and asked to speak with his father, Thomas Gilbert Sr. about business.He placed the gun in his dad's hand before leaving the scene, as if to make it look like the shooting was a suicide, prosecutors said.
