A gunman went into a house in the town of Ardrossan and opened fire before leaving the property, says Police Scotland.

Officers from Police Scotland are searching for the killer of a 42-year-old man who was shot dead in North Ayrshire.

Detectives say a gunman went into a house on Nithsdale Road, in the town of Ardrossan, around 4.50pm on Sunday. They say the suspect"discharged what is believed to be a firearm before leaving the house" and the man died at the scene a short time later from serious injuries.Police Scotland said a search for the suspect is ongoing and it is reviewing CCTV in the area.Several police vehicles were at the scene and the street was cordoned off at Lawson Drive and Burns Terrace.
