A man who broke his neck as he was treated by a chiropractor shouted"You are hurting me," his widow told an inquest.
Mr Lawler was taken to York Hospital and later transferred to Leeds General Infirmary where he died the next day.Giving evidence, Joan Lawler, said her husband had been a fit and healthy man. "She said his shoulders and back were out of line and by gentle manipulation she could make his life much happier," Mrs Lawler said.
"She started on the shoulders and went round his body.... Then the table dropped and he shouted 'You're hurting me. You are hurting me. I can't feel my arms,'" Mrs Lawler told the inquest.
realignment is a farce, the idea you can realign joins permanently against the force of musculature is a joke. Shown hear its clearly dangerous, bet there are countless cases like this. I'd be interested to see any reliable studies showing its effectiveness
Correction: the chiropractor broke his neck. It's bad enough she tried to adjust someone w/ rods in his back, but to further destabilize his broken neck by moving him all over the place is astounding.
autiegethernow Good grief
Anybody who moves a person with spinal or neck problems should be held accountable for their actions. She paralysed him & should, at the very least, be struck off.
Pseudoscience.
What a horror story! I hate Chiropractors, the last one I went to made my neck hurt for months. I’ll never go near one again.
I broke my neck when I was 16 since then I have never looked back
I bet they told him he needed therapy twice a week for 6 weeks
The law always seems to back the business side of things. How many professionals have been found to be negilgent? Bet if it were a lowely nurse, they would have been struck off imediately!

This is so sad. May he rest in peace. I will never go again to a chiropractor they are too heavy handed. Even physio’s I have said do not do sudden manipulation on my neck. When you not expecting it they jar your neck. It’s terrifying
damn
She broke his neck and then moved him, which must surely have resulted in him becoming a paraplegic. Why isn't she struck off?
See an osteopath
Surely the headline should read 'Man's neck broken during chiropractor treatment' Otherwise it reads like he did himself
Quack treatment that needs banning. The neck procedure was done to me and left with me with permanent damage.
'when paramedics arrived Dr Scholten did not inform them of the table drop element during the treatment only that she had been applying 'gentle manipulation'.' 'A police investigation into his death ruled out any criminal charges.' HOW?
🤮
What’s the alternative to ‘alternative medicine’? Real medicine! SnakeOil
Poetic. Not that it will deter the believers in witch doctors and nonsense.
not surprised.

Shouldn’t be doing a drop table on a 80 year old person...activator at best!
Oh another one IwriteOK
Ops
Let's just get real, chiropractic treatments are fake science and medicine
This is not good at all , i would always visit a physio therapist never a chiropractor.
The only charge was for the treatment.
Paging DocBastard !
I've been receiving chiropractic treatments for the last 20 years, but unfortunately, my trusted chiropractor has got retired... what I'm gonna do? 😱💀
fake news wreathgate
“NONE of the Chiropractors listed on this site, unless stated otherwise, have a general medical qualification.” Straight lift from United Chiropractic Association website
And no charges were brought? That is a disgrace! The family deserve justice!
York - Nestle (Rowntree) - Kitkat - 'take a break'. Solved!
Having surgery on my neck next Monday. I don’t want a chiropractor touching my neck. It’s in too bad of shape.
Chiropractors are scam artists peddling unscientific dangerous nonsense.
It’s about time this quackery was banned.
That’s the reason why I prefer osteopathy
Anyone who has gone to the chiropractor has feared this would happen! That poor family and man! May in rest in peace.
So; he broke his neck, Or; he had his neck broken. Big difference, one news, one perhaps not news. All, definitely sensationalism.
Interesting phrasing, tho.
don't forget vaccination! )
That's so sad.
