Lewis Hamilton wants F1 to match unified gestures adopted by other sports

Lewis Hamilton believes Formula One drivers should take their cue from other sports in uniting to take a knee before races. Before the British Grand Prix, which Hamilton won on Sunday, F1 held an anti-racism presentation on the grid but as at previous meetings some drivers opted not to kneel. The president of the FIA, Jean Todt, has said it would be inappropriate to push drivers into doing anything to which they do not accede.

Coercing people into taking the knee is insufferable power politics. Do not humiliate yourselves in this way for any reason.

The drivers have been making their own gestures. But, Hamilton wants his approach adopted by the rest. Everyone is different and will show support for something in that way, thst should be respected and allowed.

Is compelling people to kneel the right thing to do? Even if they do, is this a demonstration of unity or simply avoiding bad publicity? Does it demonstrate an understanding of the issue?

They are all against racism. They wore anti racism t-shirts and chose not to kneel. That is a free society with individual thought and actions.
