The head covering, which can be worn with police headgear and equipment, was created after 16 months of research.The hijab is being used by one Leicestershire Police student officer but it could be rolled out further.However, it is not the first to introduce a hijab, with the Metropolitan Police, North Yorkshire Police and Police Scotland previously using ones of different design.

I had to visit Leicester on business and I can honestly say I felt as though I was in a different country ,also I felt really uncomfortable as I was the only non Muslim and I had read about the way they turn on Christians when they outnumber them

Countries like Iran, Egypt, Lebanon... used to laugh at hijabs. Look where they are now... Islam has nothing to do outside of private homes. This should not have been allowed.
Why are people freaking out? I can read nowhere that muslim women are forced to wear a hijab. It´s their choice. If they want to, they can. If not, they don´t. Wether the hijab is actually a symbol of oppression - that´s a question, which can´t be answered easily.
Personally I believe the dress codes like a hijab are signs of oppression, but this is still a decent attempt of being more inclusive and as such it's well done.

Utterly dumb! As soon as my female relatives get off the plane to visit me in the UK the first thing they do is ditch their head scarf. Hijabs are more annoying than wearing a mask. Wearing one when there is no need is the ultimate symbol of oppression.
