Labour pledges to end in-work poverty in first full term

- that he says will see a Labour government achieve their goal within a Parliamentary term of five years.Public services free at the point of useRestoring funding for public libraries, leisure centres and parks

He will say:"Behind the concept of social mobility is the belief that poverty is OK as long as some people are given the opportunity to climb out of it, leaving the others behind. "I reject that completely, and want to see a society with higher living standards for everyone as well as one in which nobody lacks the means to survive or has to choose between life's essentials.

Mr McDonnell will add:"As chancellor in the next Labour government, I want you to judge me by how much we reduce poverty... how much we create a more equal society... by how much people's lives change for the better.Conservative Party Chairman Brandon Lewis has dismissed the pledge, saying Labour's plans for the economy"would lead to worse living standards"., giving people more money in their pockets, and record numbers of people getting the security of a wage.

"Thanks to balanced approach, we've also cut taxes for 32 million people, taking millions of the lowest paid out of paying income tax altogether, and taken action to reduce the cost of living."

Yes ,they will make everybody poor ,so the poor don't like feeling left out.

They wouldn't know what poverty was if it slapped them in the face. All they will do is give away money earned by hard working people. Try going to Africa or south America and see exactly what poverty is.

How? No detail as usual.

Commie thoughts, everyone working e.g. three people working lifts!

Yep.. It will convert to out-work poverty when they tax all the corporations out of the country..

Everyone will be given a well paid job in the labour party disputes department...until they have a breakdown.

because it doesnt really existso they’ll redefine it

I call bullshit

You will be drawing Boris' old age pecunary by the time you get elected.....

when some labour MP's and lords are obsessed with Mr Corbyn, others are trying to put tight the great social injustices of tory britain, time to get one's priorities in order don't you think.

How? They are all talk in their manifesto then u-turn and deliver only for their own pockets.

Meanwhile the most racist party taking out adverts in the national press tries to divert attention with fairy dust policies.

...by reopening the mines and British Leyland.....

First class boll0cks

If I believed there was any possible chance that anyone could achieve that goal, in that timescale, I’d be a fool not to vote for them... but I’m not a fool 😏

By increasing unemployment so that only out of work poverty exists.

You can pledge anything you like when you have no chance of being in power

This man will bankrupt British business in his first full term!

In Scotland, where a good percentage work is in the service sector, will kill businesses who are already taxed to high levels by the SNP and in the case of shops the internet is closing them. Great plan I don't think.

Lies, lies, lies, FortheFewnotTheMany

Labour won't have a first term will it. We are having a sea change in the political landscape. The cosy two party stitch up is over. We will be dealing with coalitions. Both parties will be unable to cope and will fade into oblivion.

There are a lot of black-hearted tories on this thread.....But they are scared, black-hearted tories.

That figure is £500 below a full time minimum wage job for a single person........ The problem isn't the wage, it's the cost of living!

Labour's disastrous economic policies will mean few people will be in work, so it won't be a problem. It would however have to fix the massive out-of-work poverty problem that its policies will undoubtedly create.

Are these figures that Diane Abbott has come up with?

Rich folk be warned there's only one way to make poor folks better off and thats to make you lot less wealthy.

Labour can say all they like they are untrustworthy, crippled the country with debt then blamed Tories for austerity are plagued with anti-Semitism and this muppet mcdonald would nationlise everything and anything. Unelectable party.

They could organise a piss up in a brewery

How you going to do that cause you ain’t winning no election , bye bye

You cause it

Does he have a pointy hat and a magic wand?

How’s that going to work? Married couple living in a council house paying lower rent are better off than the same couple with a mortgage if both earning the same wage

European president has just been voted into power on a majority of 52% to 48% by a few hundred people. Take it the BBC will accept this vote without a confirmatory vote. selloffthebiasedbbc

Perhaps the worst opposition ever.

Poverty is a movable famine. It is defined against the median income of the country. Therefore as the median income increases so do the numbers of those in poverty increase, despite there having been no material change in their living standards.

Increasing the income of those in poverty has the effect of increasing the income at which the level of poverty is determined. It is a self defeating paradox.

Paid for by what? Significantly increased borrowing? Higher taxes for all? The magic money tree? Tell us please johnmcdonnellMP

Weren’t they in power with a massive majority for the best part of 13 years? If you can’t make people’s lives better during that run, or ensure worthwhile employment your words are worthless

Labour Party haven’t evolved. They don’t realise that some members now understand basic economics and don’t buy their bullshit.

How...going to force businesses to provide impossible pay rises? Labour living in dreamland once again...out of touch & out of time.

Heard it all before. They haven’t managed to keep to their previous and current manifesto. You can’t trust a Marxist party!

Utter joke of a statement. This translates into taxes, inflation and eventual business collapse or relocation and mass unemployment. Meaning what? REAL widespread poverty. Don't fall for it.

Monster raving loony party don't seem so bad now.

What, make benefits higher so they don't need to work ? Or force companies to pay higher salaries so everyone gets at least £40k a year. Show me how that works.

Will there be Unicorns as well?

They’d rather have the poor poorer. If everyone was equally poor we would have equality after all!

Also, free unicorns to all

Land value tax. Use that to lower house prices and fund social care. Easy.

The labour politicians have finally resorted to offering Barmecidal feasts to the public. Is it to divert attention from the issues gripping the party? Is it to do with their thirst for grabbing the nation? Who can tell! May be not even he who runs the show in the party.

now thats a Headline .

rainbow unicorns for everyone

I pledge to gold-plate every house in the UK, both existing and future, in my first full term. Much like Labour, I won't ever be in a position to actually follow through on this, so I can just make up any old shit too.

You can say that as you'll not get in power

Only one way to do that. That’s by making the poor people who work unemployed!

Utter failed ideological cloud cuckoo land bollocks.

is it going to put us all out of work?

Reintroduce the 10 pence tax rate you robbed off the poor when last in office

以前工资很低,后来坐办公室大约4万,销售一直拿底薪,没业绩

Have they found Harry Potters wand . 🙄

Labour voters believe the pledge it is why they vote labour. Thick as xxxx.

Yipeeeeeee

Yeah, and then ending taxes with it right?
