National Farmers Union president Minette Batters said"seismic change" was needed to tackle flooding.
If an emergency is somehow overwhelming, ministers can use the Act to take control and even override existing laws and rules. The Cobra meeting is Whitehall's way of trying to efficiently bring together all the key people in an emergency to co-ordinate the government's response.Joe Howslam, 23, told the BBC:"I live with my parents, brother and sister, but we've all had to move out.
Only because it’s making you look as uncaring as you really are.
It is no good making excuses help should have been there soon after it has your Government that for the last 10 years that has cut flood defences funds so clown Johnson your Fault
There are people away from South Yorkshire who think you are not doing enough!
'But hey ho their poor and North of the Watford gap'
🙆♂️Get your wellies on, Boris, it's a fantastic photo opportunity; doesn't come around all that often - well, perhaps once or twice a year.🤔 Get your arse out there and at least pretend to be doing the caring thing.
BBCPolitics That's the problem...you don't think!
Don’t forget Grenville empty burned out Tower block stands as Living Testament to the Tories. Nothing has changed😩🤦🏼♀️
These poor people need help A.S.P and sending all party's out Is NOT THE ANSWER SO WOULD ALL YOU PARTY LEADERS BORIS!! CON CORBYN !! LAB SWINDON!! LIB ALL BE VISITING IF THERE WAS NOT A ELECTION GOING ON ANSWER IS NO YOU ARE OUT TO GT VOTES SHAME ON U ALL
Pity the Government haven't.
Look, I'm just an American observer, but why can't this man get a decent haircut? Or a comb?
How did he get out of the ditch?
Jacob_Rees_Mogg just double checking whether the residents ought to follow the advice of emergency services on this one?
Its very sad, worrying, disruptive, damaging, heart breaking, personal, despairing. All that and more. However, its the weather. We have had many floods before.I think its really desperate of Labour and Lib not so Dems to be jumping up and down. They have nothing to offer.
It's not a national emergency, it only affects a small number of people. Building on flood plains is not a government problem. It is local councils who should have ensured developers allowed for adequate drainage on new estates. You can't plan for s 1 in a 100 year event
BBCPolitics Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council Almost entirely LABOUR controlled and with derisory 2 star feedback! Feedback comment 'Nothing has changed it is still extremely corrupt with extremely rude staff' Let's get real. It's a very distressing flood but Government to blame? 🤔
No he thinks there is nothing north of Watford
BBCPolitics Do you smell the bull shit?
BBCPolitics That was a Party Political Broadcast by the bbcnews for the Conservative Party. Every word of which is untrue.
not one for now, as people in this area are genuinely suffering. BUT which party controls these three councils. Doncaster - LABOUR !!!!!!!! Rotherham - LABOUR !!!!!!! Sheffield - LABOUR !!!!!!!
And if this was in Surrey, Kent, Sussex or any other home county he'd have bent over backwards for them. If doing nothing in a real emergency is the tory agenda then wake up all those who think voting for these arseholes really is a good vote.
It is time for Britain to have Barrier-defences in position at All vulnerable Low-land areas where people & Homes are at risk of Flooding, An upsetting experience now caused by ongoing weather outcomes, People & Homes should be protected, History some Flooding periodic 100 years.
ADEQUATE response. Well gee that’s put my mind at rest. Thanks conservatives, going the extra yard
BBCPolitics BloJo in staff mode. Lots of words to say very little of any value
‘I know there are people with flat caps and whippets who are desperate to find a pub that’s not flooded, so they can have their pint of stout before going out to steal a bucket of coal...what? We’re live on the BBC?’
BBCPolitics 'the current response' It's your response Boris! You are *responsible* for your own lack of reaction.
BBCPolitics The flooding is mainly due to the stopping of dredging of waterways. This was an EU directive at the greenies insistence to save a few mollusks! These waterways have been dredged for a thousand years with little problem to the community. Watch, the flooding will be blamed on CC!
Far too slow a response & simply not good enough by PM. Declaring a national emergency would have allowed armed forces to be on the spot. Provide safe security for houses evacuated etc & labour pool to help. Do wonder if this was Leafy suburbs of Surrey more would have been done.
The nanny state needs to coddle me 24/7
You did nothing for days
Someone should ask what is the purpose of the environment agency!
BBCPolitics Bias bbc stitch up. He’s not a super hero the flash or superman. How fast can it be resolved.
If you live on a flood plain. Why do you wait for flooding to happen and then blame “authorities” for not reacting quick enough. Surely only sensible to prepare yourself
Very difficult in the flat lands, such as the Vale of York for any government to react with sufficient haste, or to allocate sufficient money to make them flood free. No consolation for the victims, but we are witnessing unusual and unpredictable weather.
BBCPolitics The BBC's decision to put opposition criticism of the govt at the top of every news bulletin betrays their agenda. Much as they did when Jacob Rees-Mogg made his clumsy comments about Grenfell. Sooner we scrap the licence fee the better. BBCBias
Tories don't care if your home is under water. Never trust a Tory MP.
Of course he knows but he is not bothered about the North of England.
Isn’t good enough, but then again: i couldn’t give a toss - is pretty much the take away
BorisJohnson visited any of the flood areas, no, I thought not
BBCPolitics 'An adequate response' is hardly a ringing endorsement and the PM has been less tat speedy in his response, had to be shamed into a Cobra Meeting by the Leader of the Opposition.
Make them not feel like that then. You’re the Prime Minister.
Stop posing with babies and showing off promoting beer brands in a pub - get off your bum, put some waders on and get up there showing some support. And I am a voter for the big C! That IS Conservative, by the way.
BorisJohnson Lying again
BBCPolitics Mr Johnson was too busy having a chat with Nigel.
I thought Boris sorted it with a mop?
This so called poltician is a joke and it's about time the BBC got their priorities right and start seriously questioning the buffoon BorisJohnson
It bever is we had flooding in the south and same response the Give will supply relief and insurance the rest . Still takes 9 months to make good your house back to normal wherever you live . Disgusting Labour using fir political view could not care less . Unwell he gets votes
And who feel your view that it was not a national emergency was a slap in the face. If there wasn't an election coming up, you would not have u-turned quite so willingly.
You know when you’ve never believed what people say? Then ample evidence is heaped in front of you to prove you correct...and you can’t be happy about being right...and ‘told you so’ doesn’t cover it...
Five days it took this useless fat arse to do respond - will the BBC hold him to account, not a chance
If this was Notting Hill or Mayfair ... I think the mobilisation of the Environment Agency plus troops would have been immediate. If anything happens in the north ...well... this speaks for itself. Poor show.
'Current response'. Titter titter.
Off subject. Come on BBC, where are you with this
Why dont you point out that Johnson cut fire brigade posts as mayor. That he diverted money away from them to fund his personal projects.
Sorry we let you down may of helped
