The former prime minister is trying to save the party he loves. But, writes Sean O’Grady, that doesn’t mean anyone is listening

were two brilliant and ambitious young Labour MPs determined to turn their party of perennial protest into a natural party of government. They fought and argued their way to the 1997 landslide. They won three elections in a row, an unprecedented achievement, and both served as prime minister – two of only six leaders from their party to occupy No 10.

He's only invoking division within the Labour party. If Tony Blair has a strategy then let the party know; don't just criticise.

He's a Warmonger and can't be trusted.

Err... Yeah!

Yup

That's a very interesting question but I am afraid I am not qualified enough to answer it. However, I cannot help wondering if he has the appetite to iron and rebrand The Labour Party into a Party which can win round the electorate's confidence again in the time to come!

Why isnt he in jail?

Blair’s main strength is that he is a Political Animal who led the Labour Party to Election Victory. He can add value towards making the Party Electable but not shape it. He responded to the mood of the Electorate, The Current Leadership dont understand that and Spin won’t work

A shame as more sense than the current lot

Short answer. Yes.

The man should be in prison

I don’t know, why don’t we ask the hugely popular and electable Corbyn for his help? My point actually is probably neither, Labour HAS to break away and carve out a new identity or it will lose again,

Give. It. A. Rest.

Unfortunately both Blair and Corbyn are differing sides on the same coin...UKLabour needs to be looking forward and remint itself for the 21st century. The labels of Blairite and Corbynite just keep the wounds open and Labour now needs unity.

Simple answer, yes. That is not to detract from the many positive things his government did while in office, but he’s yesterday’s man, and not a very popular one.

How has he not yet been tried by the Hague? WarCrimes

Yes. War criminal.

Yes and no. Too toxic to back a candidate, he says so himself. Not so toxic a successful candidate cannot do as he suggests and win an election. One of the greatest politicians of our age. And remember, Churchill had his wilderness years

You know when he says Labour should stop looking backwards...

Toxic? Maybe not. Blood stained? Definitely

Yes

No he’s the only one who ever did progress Labour and Brown reversed all those Labour years and we ended up with hapless Corbyn and McDonnell... and where did that get things ?

Best prime minister we have ever had

He’s mainly considered toxic by the toxic people who’ve almost destroyed the credibility/electability of the party over the last few years

No, by the way.

Ah, putting in the headline the answer you want people to give. That old chestnut.

Tony Blair who?

Of course he is no matter how the media try to portray him. Murdoch has new people now. Just another Fabian nut case.

The devil awaits his demise!!...his soul will be tormented for all eternity!!...so many lives lost because of him!...he cares nothing about the pain he has caused!...a war criminal!...and nothing more!...he should be put on trial for war crimes against humanity!!..an evil man!😡

Nahhh! Wanna see toxic, 👇

Absolutely!

Yes. While his government did achieve some good stuff, he went to war in Iraq, and that caused a giant train of awfulness that we are still experiencing. And he had a whole country (us lot) telling him not to do it. But he has an agenda, and we don’t want him back. Ever.

Iraq ruined him forever.

He most certainly is, stay well away from him.

Yes.

Yes. Next stupid question.

war criminal? yes far too toxic

No he is not he is enjoying his retirement

Blair is more likely to help shape the future of a new pro-EU centre party leaving Labour to self-combust on the far-left fringes of British politics.

Blair gave us Brexit than ran away

Yes.

Yep!

HawkingDead Tony Blair. Seriously.

Yes he’s a war criminal and every media company shouldn’t let him near there studio or office.

Do bears shit in the woods?

Mass murdering war criminal. Lock monster up!

Yes

No. People who savage the achievements of New Labour which vastly outnumber the mistakes are the toxic ones.

Yes. Definitely.

Umm...yes:)

Epstein's buddy?

yes he is .and i sont know when to shut up .

Tony Blair should be in prison, so yes.

He is a liar and a war criminal

He's a war criminal and is owned by arab gulf nations money

war criminal

He is a war criminal

Yes.

Yes. He’s a bloody war criminal.

Boris Johnson is my bozo twin!

Pretty obviously yes.

InstituteGC Tony is one of my heroes - give ‘me hell, Tony!
