Instagrammer Tiffany Mitchell has been forced to deny faking a road crash for likes.

Lindsey Grace Whiddon

She appeared to have more than one helmet. Where was the blood? Why did she name-check her tattoo artist in her post and - even more crucially - why was there a prominently branded bottle of water in the forefront of one of the shots? She told me her boyfriend, James Cloninger, was killed in a motorbike accident in 2016. Some of her Instagram posts refer to their relationship, and her grief. She denies staging her crash, which she says happened when she took a bend too fast on a country road in Tennessee. She and Lindsey sent unpublished photographs to the BBC showing the police and an ambulance - a Google image search and the data inside the photos themselves indicates they are originals.

"I have no idea how anyone could believe that this was staged or being exploited for attention for a brand campaign," she says. There are continuing examples of Instagrammers failing to declare when their posts are sponsored by the brand they are promoting and not a spontaneous expression of their own personal preference.

Remember when we started a fake Instagram account and had one of the researchers taking photos of herself around Tooting and Balham pretending she was in Italy and America with the aim of running a piece demonstrating how much of a con it is? Maybe now we can run that article

Anyone with a brain never started.

She succeeded! The BBC gave her publicity. There must be very little real news out there to allow the BBC to run with this story! Too many 'reporters' with nothing to do.

Did we ever start?

They are as influential as the BBC, which is zero !!

If you actually take influencers seriously then you're a melon with brain damage. 🍈

What a load of old bull. If you believed in the first place you need your head read. People are so naive. These people are just ads.

Never did to start with.....🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑 They are ALL a load of 🐃🐃🐃🐃🐃🐃🐃🐃🐃🐃🐃🐃🐃

How convenient that there was someone manning a camera to catch all this! I mean what kind of influencer would she really be if she didn't travel with a full entourage including a camera man and a truck full of products to place.

Such art direction on the photos documenting her motorcycle accident! How lucky that she fell off the bike during the magic lighting hour and didn't hurt her face, head, and only has the type of injuries sustained in a very bad accident on a tv show.

I never started.

I don’t think I ever started

I do hope so! 😏

What happened about thinking for yourself, be yourself, most of these clowns aren’t worth your time.

'We' = BBC Millennial Staffers.

Believing what?

We put too many people on a pedestal anyhow. I could see this happening.

Do people really take notice of these people and take them seriously?!

Did we ever?

I understand there is a computer game called SIMS where people live in a make believe world. Sounds like the followers of so called influencers have taken it too far. Have we become so gullible that these people are thought worthy of time.

As I sit here drinking my Lipton while perusing this story on my Apple iPhone 4, I never saw the attraction of “influencers” except for the gullible. Not even when seen more clearly through my Johnson & Johnson Daily Wear contacts.

Who seriously gives a toss?

I met a girl and she said she was a model. I said vogue, cosmopolitan?. NO she said Instagram. I said I was a sniper. She said Army?. NO I replied Call of Duty.

Influence my arse.

She got what she wanted. Attention.

The BBC has. Everyone else doesn't give a fook.

Never did

Anyone that follows 'influencers' needs a reality check.

Some of us never started.

Some of us didn't start, especially when we see photoshopped images of crash scenes with product placement

O(h the irony. 🤣

Instagram influencers? i stopped believing, when i decided not to add instagram!! Influencers though? What?

This is a real disease. I don’t know why people care so much about em. I mean they have no talent at all. Bye

Some of us never started

helenrrrr 🥴
