When I attempted to tell a good friend how much I had in my account, I felt my skin go cold

Afew weeks ago, a self-isolating family asked if I could swing by the community centre food scheme on their behalf. It’s run by Your Local Pantry in roughly 50 UK locations, and allows low-income households to pick up food that would otherwise go to waste at a discount, using a system of hearts and diamonds (you’re allowed a certain amount of each). It’s straightforward, and requires no impromptu maths or frights at the till when the bill is higher than expected and the customer has to take back items in front of tutting queuers.

Damn!)

There’s lots to say on this matter – namely, the horrors of food poverty while food waste piles high – but my mind keeps wandering to the kind euphemism of hearts and diamonds, and how much easier it is to say, “I’m out of diamonds” than it is, “I’m out of money.” headtopics.com

I have met my taboo Final Boss. Money talk, perhaps our biggest adversary yet.

Think winning Olympic gold is tough? Try doing it while coping with racismAthletes like Simone Biles must perform at the highest level while also carrying burdens specific to Black sportswomen Three Africans just won the 10000 m race. Let's talk racism now. Why can't she just be a sportswoman? Why black sportswoman? I don't understand why black people keep separating themselves, yet they want equality. Jessie Owens swept the sprints in nazi germany of all places. Does that mean he won diamond medals?

What’s really behind these absurd and restrictive foreign travel rules?'If the money we spend abroad were instead disgorged in the UK, it would theoretically be a huge net boost to the economy' | Writes JeremyWarnerUK JeremyWarnerUK This article would make sense if travel wasn't a fixed inventory business. Broadly we only have a certain number of holiday cottages and hotel rooms that people can use. JeremyWarnerUK Theories are great...until they clash with reality. JeremyWarnerUK It would, quite literally, be worth twice as much.

Alzheimer’s disease signs seen in Covid patients with neurological symptomsScientists also discover link between coronavirus and long-term memory and thinking problems An interesting if not disturbing study, given so many globally are in lockdown and alone. Triggers that could exacerbate Alzheimer’s at a time when many may not have support systems in place is not good. MimiJ9 Why are we actively spreading this to children? 🤯 So many kids are having neurological symptoms (inc my 7yo old son) what does the future hold for them? The mounting evidence suggests it’s nothing good. 😞 LongCovidKids longcovidkids
