It was the combination of hydroxychloroquine and zinc that showed promising results in treatment. So this study has no relevance, other than having a poke at Trump I suppose. Which is fair enough but doesn't add much to the sum of human knowledge that we badly need right now.
The dosage in trials is toxic dosage 2400 mg on day 1 and 9600 mg in total. It is not optimal. Toxic disosage was choosen deliberately to fail the study. Proper dosage is 800 mg (day1) followed by 400 mg for five days. Total 2800 mg.
And since Trump has been taking hydroxychloroquine, it apparently does not cure selfishness or bigotry either.
You have incorrectly stated that patients either take a placebo or one of the study drugs. It is an open label trial so researchers know exactly which drug patients have taken in the trial and there are no placebos involved.
Id like to see a randomised, double blind, placebo controlled trial for Hydroxychloroquine that is administered early IN THE symptomology cycle.. not in the hospital cycle along with zinc.this drug has been been successfully used for nearly 70 years.
Plus, it's cheap.

Nobody claimed it was a cure. It is a blood thinner and helps prevent blood clotting in COVID and other patients.

It was NEVER alleged to CURE anyone. It is a treatment for COVID. Why did the Lancet fake a study on HCQ? Like why on earth would they want to fake a study that says HCQ kills you when it does not? What do they gain?
