People campaigning against HS2 rail project dig tunnel near Euston station, in bid to prevent eviction from protest camp

A spokeswoman for HS2 said tunnel protests were "costly to the taxpayer".

HS2 is set to link London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds. It is hoped the 20-year project will reduce rail passenger overcrowding and help to rebalance the UK's economy. Transport Secretary Grant Shapps told MPs in September that the first phase of the high-speed rail link between London and BirminghamThe second phase, to Manchester and Leeds, was due to open in 2032-33 but that has been pushed back to 2035-40.image captionBy BBC London's transport correspondent Tom EdwardsIn the 1990s it was one of the ways that pushed environmental concerns into the headlines and changed perceptions.

Can't we just throw a couple of Grenades down the tunnel?

Have they actually looked at any of the aerial photos? They are far far far too late. Probably also hoping that we don't get another storm as I can't imagine anyone will be coming to save them if something goes wrong.

Is this just because it connects to the North and might make it easier for Northerners to come south. Is anyone protesting about the new tunnel link under the Thames from Essex to Kent? Or is ok to invest in the south?

It's nothing really new. People use to protest Brunel's railway projects but that turned out ok 🤷🏻‍♂️
