As with many things, it’s hard to tell exactly what it is now, as while it’s now open to the public again there are many publishers – most notably Sony – that don’t attend any more or only have a token presence.
By the end of this week, we’ll have an idea of how much Gamescom is back to its old self but it’s very difficult to know what to expect from Opening Night Live, the self-explanatory preview event organised by The Games Awards host Geoff Keighley. In previous years Gamescom ONL has worked very much like a miniature version of The Game Awards, with important new announcements and trailers often debuting during its two-hour running time.that tonight will not see that much in the way of brand new games and will instead concentrate on new looks at previously announced ones. But considering one of the event’s recent highlights was the first gameplay trailer for Elden Ring that still leaves plenty of room for excitement.
You can make your own guesses as to what this year’s equivalents might be but there are already rumours of a first look at S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, more on Alan Wake 2 and Black Myth: Wukong, and perhaps an announcement from Keighley’s pal Hideo Kojima.
