Dr Punam Krishan talks about the covid-19 vaccine in pregnancy With coronavirus restrictions gradually easing, Covid cases have been increasing rapidly over the past month or so.Due to these rising numbers, more people are getting 'pinged' by the NHS app or being told to isolate by NHS Test and Trace – often meaning they have to work from home (if their job allows). headtopics.com

Whilst working from your couch could be convenient, it also might mean you're spending more money than usual on household bills like lights or the internet... which is exactly what no parent juggling the expenses of family life needs! However, Martin Lewis has revealed a simple way those made to self-isolate by the NHS app or those pinged can claim £125 using this online tool from the government – which should only take five minutes.

The reclaimed money is meant to help cover the expenses of working from home.Anyone who pays tax and has been forced to work from home over the last tax year can make the claim, even if it was just for just one day. However, you're not eligible if you decided to work from home for yourself.

You'll also need to prove your household costs have increased due to remote working, and you can't make the claim if your workplace is already paying for these home expenses or if you're self-employed.It might come as a surprise to you to hear that this system wasn't created for Covid times specifically. It was already in place pre-pandemic to help people left out of pocket by workplace expenses.

However, Martin Lewis explained in his MoneySavingExpert newsletter: 'HMRC has specifically confirmed to me that claims from employees working at home due to coronavirus measures, if their usual workplace is closed, count for this relief.'The same also applies if you have to work from home because you've been told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace, or because you're self-isolating having been pinged by the NHS app.' headtopics.com

Claims for the 2021 to 2022 tax year will mean your tax code will simply be adjusted. However, any claims for last year or the previous four years will be paid to you as one lump sum in your salary.(Just think if you could claim money from the last four tax years, you could potentially receive up to £500 back – not bad!)

The deduction to your tax will depend on your tax rate and your highest tax rate will determine this. Those paying 20% tax rate will receive £1.20 per week, those paying 40% tax will get £2.40 per week, and anyone paying 45% will get £2.70 per week.
