A former professional head of the Army has questioned whether the treatment of 14 men interned during the Troubles amounted to torture.Gen Sir Mike Jackson made the remarks in a BBC documentary detailing the men's experience.During their Army detention, the men said they were forced to listen to constant loud static noise, deprived of sleep, food and water, forced to stand in a stress position and beaten if they fell.
He said: "This question, can non-violent ill-treatment equal torture, is very philosophical as well as legal."PSNI 'wrong not to investigate torture claims' Jim Auld was taken away by soldiers as he returned to his home in west Belfast, before being transferred to an interrogation centre in County Londonderry by helicopter.
"They were all standing with lumps of wood and baseball bats and that sort of thing and they pushed me in there and each of them, as I was running by, battered me. "Torture to me, in a sense, was what the like of the Nazis were doing with the French resistance and people like that. There was gross physical violence, people were actually beaten to death," he said
Could you manage to air this important program any later in your schedule? 🙄Establishment to the rotten core as per usual
Would not know the meaning of torture if it came up and bit him in the behind. Outrageous statement.
*alleged
He looks like a guy who won’t be about much longer. Hope he enjoys hell
Did he aye?
Like the guy who questioned if water boarding was torture and volunteered to undergo it. He didn't question it afterwards.
Let’s carry out the “treatment” on Mike and ask him again if it’s torture.
This is the face of pure evil ...
Jackson should be in jail for war crime's.
I got a question for him
Why don’t we return the favour on him and then he can decide if it was torture or not? Happy to help in any way.
He is soon to meet his maker.....I'd say he is nervous!!!
Let's throw Mike out of a helicopter with a hood over his head see if he enjoys it.
Let’s have a BBC programme about IRA torture of Jean McConville. Shot in the head and left to die in an unmarked grave. Sick of these 🇮🇪 whingers. “Oh dear me, I lost a nights sleep”. Tell that to the children orphaned by IRA sectarian death squads.
A retired general is asking if torture can only be physical ? He hasn’t ever heard of psychological torture ? Wonder what his thoughts would be if some men under his command were thrown out of helicopters blindfolded told they were 100s of feet in the air, after no sleep for days
sinnfeinireland Tributes pour in from Sinn Fein, for Sinn Fein/PIRA Moors Murderer, Henry Hensey McKenna who will be buried in Monaghan 21/1/2023, Hensey McKenna Tortured and Murdered school boy Columba McVeigh in 1975…
Cruel and unusual punishment, a rose by any colour.
THERE'S A BASTARD THAT SHOULD BE IN A JAIL CELL.
Let's try it on this old bastard and see what he thinks
Old murderous Mike tries to be a smartass during the interview, which should tell you everything about how seriously the Army takes these claims.
Well, that's a load of self-serving bullsh!t.
Left wing supreme court shouldnt interfere in such matters.
Perhaps Mike would like to endure the treatment and then comment 😀
Old military farts like him should not have a voice in these matters!
