In November Simon Community Scotland issued guidance with Dogs Trust on the matter, highlighting how dogs could provide comfort for people with trauma.
The document consists of several pieces of advice such as how to provide dog-friendly communal rooms in temporary shelters and create risk assessments to ensure there are no issues with staff members being allergic to, or afraid of, pets.
Excellent, more shelters should allow pets, dogs and cats, as they provide loyalty and love for their owners. Far to cold and wet to allow humans or pets to sleep on the streets.
Brilliant news for so many their dog is their only friend especially veterans.
This is great for many homeless people their dog is their reason to keep going.
Sleeping woof. (sorry...)
Great x
Good. It's about time we recognize them as a family unit.
What about cats? I'd sleep outside in the cold just to have my cat with me. We love our cats every bit as much. ❤
Great move by Glasgow and when you take the time to talk to those unfortunate to be on the streets who have a dog it’s the fact they are not prepared to abandon their loyal companion that keeps them on the streets, at last one council has seen how to really help
That will be beneficial to the mental health of the dog owners and to their dogs.
Why should this even be an issue? All homeless people with dogs should be offered shelter for both. They are companions, and should not be separated.
They shouldnt have them in the first place. Really selfish and irresponsible of them. Poor doges.
About time
I am amazed this is a thing! What is supposed to happen to the dogs?
is that not the norm?
This is great news and if done properly could be done at all shelters. So many homeless people refuse to go to shelters because of not wanting to leave their beloved dogs. Well done Glasgow for starting to showing others the way.
Good!
Why have they all got dogs ? Surely the RSPCA should step in
Finally some people have understood that for a homeless person the dog is like family. Many refuse to go to a shelter if they must leave their dog behind.
Humans have evolved with dogs in a symbiotic relationship....they helped us hunt with superior senses and physical attributes. They warned and defended us throughout history. Their unquestioning loyalty and devotion is invaluable to our mental health. This is a great decision
About time 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💓💓💓💓💓💓
Centenary House ( de Paul ) Belfast does this. I met the wonderful Rosie there just the other day .
vote f*cking tory you know it makes sense
Brilliant I no from life experience that the dog is there life line
That’s a great move, well done Glasgow
No one should be sleeping on the streets in 2020.Many that do have dogs. The dogs are usually in better than they are. They are a companion,a protector & some comfort when the outlook is bleak.I hope it’s a success & it can be rolled out nationwide👍🏼
crimethink Well done Glasgow
Lol’ most homeless ( scammers) don’t actually own the dog ... the dogs are used for effect & normally borrowed/hired from a fellow junkie.
These dogs save lives fantastic
Get your heads out of the clouds people. If you look at the statistics most homeless are on the streets due to factors outside the governments control. So stop with the bleeding hearts. Goin by studies 25-33% are mentally ill. Then you mix in drug abuse and alcoholism.
Quite right too!!!
Scotland leading the way again? 👏
Are there many homeless in Glasgow? Why is their large party not looking after their people. After the war many were put to work building homes for the homeless they could do that again.
Asides from housing those who want it, we could easily do so much more to provide physical and symbolic space for the homeless, e.g. balancing the proportion of ‘hostile architecture’ with spaces to sleep in urban environments.
Well done Glasgow............
Good.
Hold on - there can't be any homeless people in Glasgow or anywhere in Scotland, as Nicloa Sturgeon wants immigrants to move there and they'll be given social housing. SNP
I wish I could provide shelter to them, whatever I can affort
Nice one.
UK, should not make anyone homeless. Uk you are great and royal, I was shocked to see homeless in london. How world ruler and have kind king , queen and highly educated citizens, can tolerate homeless persons. Give them small room.
God bless them 💕🐶
Who is lining up to take the mad alsatian off an alky anyway?
Dogs deserve a home.
Good!! Fuck peta
If done correctly, this could be a great move. Given many homeless have dogs as their only companions, this could provide the first stages of stability and comfort. Well worth a try.
