Urgent work is taking place to restore heating at HMP Liverpool, the Ministry of Justice says.

Four years ago, inspectors found rats and cockroaches were rife in the Victorian prison, known locally as HMP Walton, with many inmates living in "squalid" conditions.

One area was deemed so dirty, infested and hazardous it could not be cleaned, while inspectors also found exposed electrical wiring and filthy, leaking toilets. In his September 2017 report, Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prisons Peter Clarke found an "abject failure to offer a safe and decent" environment at the prison and said they were the "worst living conditions".

His January 2020 report, which followed an inspection in August and September 2019, concluded there had been a dramatic improvement at the Category B prison, which opened in 1855, but said more work needed to be done.

There are people dying and starving so back of the queue guys

That's why police yell Freeze! when they were arresting bandits.

Well if you don’t want the time, don’t do the crime.

Oh dear

Illegals are comfy in hotel rooms..

And …..

Be on quicker than power failure in northeast after the storm

who cares?

And, I’m still waiting to see the problem? The prisons here in Japan never use heating and it’s a hell of a lot colder than the UK!

Capitalism failing even in first world countries. Repair the heating system, imperialist

What about all the people who aren’t criminals who have to endure winters without heating

Old Victoria Prisons aren’t even suitable for modern day housing of 2021 prisoner

There's lovely then! 👍

Surely the Governor can add a few extra bars on for them 😁😁

So are half the country because they can’t afford to put it on 🤷🏻‍♀️

And a are people who can not afford their heating bills, what do you want, sympathy?

Who put the ‘free’ in freezing?

NoMoreNeocolonialism

Did Dums…

Has he testiculated yet?

Oh well 'Sits in front of the TV with the heating on full blast' Ahhh toasty

Has Priti Patel suggested they hold a party to keep warm?

The poor lambs.

They need to get some cell windows first - especially on the induction wing😏 😂😂

It is a very fine line between prison and normal life , one slip, one lack of judgement, who knows ..so especially this time of year perhaps we better show a bit of empathy they are not all murderers some just made mistakes that they will never make again 👍

Good,I'm over it,big coats and hats for the staff please,

I don't care.

Good

‘It’s soul-crushing’: the shocking story of Guantánamo Bay’s ‘forever prisoner’In Alex Gibney’s harrowing documentary, the tale of Abu Zubaydah, seen as patient zero for the CIA’s torture programme, is explored with horrifying new details Not acknowledged enough is Obama, instead of capturing suspects & imprisoning them in Guantanamo like Bush, vastly expanded drone assassinations, instead. Yes, Bush tortured suspects. But Obama KILLED them outright w. no trial, along w/anyone else in the vicinity. Which is worse? 'Zubaydah, never charged with a crime or allowed to challenge his detention, is incarcerated at the Guantánamo Bay prison camp.' His point, thru' attorneys is war in Afghanistan is over. Charge with crimes/take to court. In forever limbo seems extreme even for a 'terrorist'

Prisons to get 'airport-style' security and addiction assessments for all inmates under drugs crackdown planA league table will be introduced to hold prison governors to account for keeping drugs out of jails and keeping prisoners off them for good under new plans announced by the government. Need to let Speaker of HoC, LindsayHoyle_MP know about these. The problem is most of our prisons are Victorian, falling to pieces and fail to rehabilitate. Stopping drug use is important but setting people back up for a life outside prison is just as important
