Bear in mind that flu is a winter disease. It was all-but eliminated in southern hemisphere winter because that coincided with the well-disciplined first phase of anti-COVID measures (lockdowns etc.) We're losing that discipline just in time for our winter

I think the main thing to look at here is the number of flu deaths. Cases might be underreported, but that doesn't really matter unless deaths are being under reported as well. But take the US for example, they have seen a spike in flu and pneumonia deaths this year...
