More than half the population has struggled with sleep during the lockdown, especially younger people.

Getty ImagesSleep problems were more common in people facing financial hardship, while two in five reported having more vivid dreams than usual. The study was carried out by market research company Ipsos MORI, and King's College London.

The findings are based on online interviews in late May with 2,254 UK residents in the 16-75 age bracket. The researchers said lack of sleep may itself have had knock-on effects on people's capacity to be resilient during the pandemic, and there are signs of a disproportionate impact on particular groups: women, younger people and those facing financial difficulties.

"As with so much about Covid-19, the crisis is affecting people very differently depending on their circumstances, and that includes the most fundamental aspects of life, such as sleep," said Prof Bobby Duffy of King's College London. He said nearly two-thirds of the public reported some negative impact on their sleep, showing just how unsettling the pandemic and lockdown measures have been.

Yep - reading this at 2.17am :-)

Each day differs, i cant sleep a full night, wide awake now i probs wont sleep till 4am

I anxious because i have no control over my own future there is absolutely no news on colleges and my degree is at stake 14 years to get to this point and students are being told nothing

Whip everyone back into the exhausting misery of waged slavery, BBC. If anyone can do it, you can.

I don’t go to sleep till like 3-4am then my lovely dog wakes me up at 6am to get fed and doesn’t settle back down till about 8am so I sleep in 2-3 hour sections and wake up about 1pm 🙃

This is my biggest problem, been bad since my father in law was diagnosed 2 years ago with terminal cancer, got worse when he died about a year and ahalf ago . Now struggling to find any routine went to bed when the sun came up the other day shielding Covid19 stress

Im not. Too worried by the fear you push in every opinion broadcast

Actually before the lockdown I struggled to sleep, I now sleep like a baby... God knows why.

I can relate to this with a vengeance!

I am

Been living on 4/5 hrs a night sleep recently. Don't actually feel to bad.

I go to sleep on Monday wake up and it's fkin Friday. Lol WERES the days goin?

I’m sleeping like the dead. I’ve become nocturnal, & actually lost weight which is a bonus. Back at work 2 weeks ago but working from home most of the time. I’m feeling pretty calm about it all

My usual sleeping pattern during lockdown is crazy I lie awake on Twitter,Facebook or listening to radio till about 0600 then I drop off my alarm goes off at 0800 no way can I get up now back to sleep till around noon then I rise slowly

Me sleep wonderfully.

My sleeping is terrible atm!

Sign of intelligence. Geniuses do not sleep much.

I can't sleep knowing what's going on in London right about now. But this is more important, clearly.

Go to sleep BBC

Some are doing well, finished the lockdown to protest

Only half? You need to ramp up the fear

Quit traveling around the damme! World jackassess and stay home enjoy your entertainment

Well you would think the same as any other night .

in all seriousness , is there still a lockdown?

What’s sleep

4am my normal bed time now lool

The other half is fine then.

LOL. Ask an working class American if they get any sleep.

Like this...zzzzzzzzz

Ministers 'consider relaxing UK travel quarantine'It comes after some MPs criticised the government's plan to quarantine people coming to the UK for 14 days. Close the borders. Problem solved. Is this because they have no way of enforcing it? They’ve really got to stop announcing stuff they’re going to do before they have the ability to deliver it. I must be missing something.
