UPDATE: Newlyweds Lee and Rosaleen Ruane were stranded on a beach in Rhodes due to wildfires. They've now been moved to the north of the island by the army.

By Matt Fox & Niall GlynnA Northern Ireland couple who travelled to the Greek island of Rhodes for their honeymoon have been moved from a beach where they were stranded by wildfires.

Mr Ruane told BBC News NI they were moved from the beach by the Greek army in the early hours of Sunday.Mr Ruane said it had been "getting quite scary" on the beach and the couple felt much safer where they are now.Since the couple landed on Tuesday,fanned by strong winds while temperatures have remained high due to the ongoing heatwave in Europe.

He said they were with thousands of others on a beach and had been "led to believe" their hotel had caught fire.No injuries have been reported, according to the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection in Greece.
