A 59-year-old grandad has been named the owner of the oldest mobile phone in the country - and he brings it out at parties to entertain his granddaughters. Mark Vanstone is the owner of a Motorola 4800X, which weighs in at 1.5kg - and still 'works'.
“If you look back to the year that I got the phone - the year my daughter was born which is why I remember it so well - the phone was worth £1,000. It was stupidly expensive for that time; we have come a long way since then.” When Mark moved on from the catering company years later, he acquired the Motorola mobile and has kept it for 34 years and counting. With a bit of research into the Motorola 4800X Mobile, Mobile Phones Direct found that the model is for sale online for its original value of £1,000 and when asked, Mark was surprised and unaware of the potential value of his vintage mobile.
