Changes expected on Monday are set to include getting users out of the criminal justice system.

The government will announce a new drugs strategy on Monday overhauling the drug recovery and treatment system, the BBC has learned.Measures will include a large focus on diversion, a tactic designed to remove drug users from the criminal justice system and get them into healthcare. The overhaul has been drawn together by at least six government departments, the BBC understands.

In Scotland, prosecutors can refer people accused of drugs offences for "diversion" and their Lord Advocate said people caught with Class A drugs could be given a police warning instead of facing prosecution - a move the'Chronic health condition' The Times newspaper has reported drug treatment courses could be offered to those whose offending was fuelled by drugs, giving people the option of changing their behaviour or facing tougher punishments.

As well as an overhauling of drug treatment plans, ministers are expected to outline more investment to tackle county lines drug gangs - urban drug dealers who sell to customers in more rural areas via dedicated phone lines.

Take out the criminality, it’s absolutely crazy and almost un policeable. The misery and community costs caused by the illegal drug activity is unmeasurable.

To BorisJohnson trussliz.and all MPs. We r British citizens trapped in Afghanistan under uncivilized regime.u r starting to celebrate Xmas by decorating ur Home but we r British citizens who voted for u to make u GOV, MPs.we r here having horrifying life hungry, freezing, sick

Just increases crime; as will just make it easier to push; hence more folk stealing. So just change the statistics; not the crime. Health care only feed the habit; as someone else takes responsibility. No ownership on those feeding crime.

About time, to many people have criminal records because they had a bit of this or that ...

Good.

Legalise marijuana simple case is is is less harmful to you than alcohol there has not been a recorded death of overdose from marijuana other wires the BBC would be on top of this like when ecstasy first came out. It doesn't have to be smoked it can be added in food or drink

Imagine how much tax it would rake in if they legalised weed.

Legalise the drugs and let them kill themselves.Problem solved.

I think this is another smoke screen to the government mismanagement. But all drugs should be legalised, it will remove all drug related crime and as we have members of the cabinet that take drugs which makes a mockery of the judicial system. You have elected drug users

It should also provide the substances they use as part of that plan. Save lives and cut crime dramatically.

Good. It obviously depends but more often than not heavy drugs users don't choose to be addictive to the stuff. They need proper healthcare instead of being chucked in a cell.

PATHETIC WOKERY! The focus should be on PREVENTION - always far better than cure. Police need to stop the gradual legalisation of drugs & judiciary likewise punish anyone caught with illegal drugs as severely as possible - 1st time or not.

Michael Gove will be pleased.
