An international boxing competition in Glasgow was cancelled after reports of a firearm found in the building.
Police were called to the Emirates Arena on London Road after the alarm was raised around 1pm on Saturday while the MTK Global Lonsdale Box Cup was taking place. Uniformed officers attended and conducted a search of the venue, however no weapon was found, the Daily Record reports.Despite that being the case, the decision was taken to call off the three-day event, which had been touted as a prestigious amateur tournament attracting fighters from across the globe.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1pm on Saturday, 25 June, officers received a report of a firearm at the Emirates Arena, London Road, Glasgow.“Following discussion with event organisers and security, police monitored the cancellation of the event from a distance."Sign up to Glasgow Live newslettersfor more headlines straight to your inbox
