Footballers should"feel free" to protest over the death of George Floyd and"should take a knee", says Kick It Out chair Sanjay Bhandari.Protests have been held in the USA after African-American Floyd, an unarmed black man, died after being restrained by Minneapolis police."If they feel they want to protest, then they should. They should feel free to do that," he told BBC Radio 4's Today Programme.
In a statement, the FA said it"strongly condemns discrimination of any kind" and that it has"endeavoured to ensure that football in England is both diverse and inclusive in recent years". Floyd died on 25 May after being restrained by white Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who kneeled on his neck for almost nine minutes to pin him down. Why the US protests resonate in the UKIn a statement on Tuesday, Fifa said it"fully understands the depth of sentiment and concerns expressed by many footballers in light of the tragic circumstances of the George Floyd case".
"Surely it is time for the world of sport to grant itself a social and moral licence," the letter signed by CGF president Louise Martin and chief executive David Grevemberg said.
Its ok if its a black person is it? Kick It Out only cares about Black people, they think racism is only applied to blacks. They wouldnt speak up if it was in honour of white people. Racism is becoming a pity for black people and a restriction for white rather than equality.
Of course, Yes they can scribble patronising crap on their Over priced designer t-shirts.
Don’t recall any campaign for Stephen Lawrence, just stick to kicking a ball around for 90 mins then do what you want in your spare time, fans don’t turn up to be told how to think about racist cops in America.
bbc getting a lot of pc mileage out of this tragedy.....
Sure thing 🤔
What does justice for George Floyd mean though? What exactly are they protesting? Why is anyone protesting this? He was killed ,the cop has been sacked and charged with his murder? What more is needed?
So it’s ok for footballers to support rioting and looting. I suppose they also support violence on the terraces by opposing fans.
Why not put it on their shirts about the 7 year old killed in a uk park by a black woman
Let's call out the rioters and looters shall we?
It's none of their business. Just meaningless virtue signalling.
Can of worms.
If any are from my team I support, I will be supporting someone else
Shouldn't be a problem if they wear armbands and shirt in honour of him. Or the celebration.
'feel free to protest'...AND also free to decry this PC liberal, loony Black Lives Matter rubbish. We can also feel free to give football a miss now!
Feel free too comment
Just as they did for Lee Rigby?
So literally wants riots in the UK too? We are all watching the streams, this is beyond protesting now..
UK? actually in the UK?Millionaire privilege lifestyle living games men should make a political gesture about what exactly?
Definitely! Famous faces are needed! People will listen more to what they say. BlackLivesMatter
Is that freedom of speech across the board?
Should be banned on the football pitch........setting a precedent is unwise.
