Two friends who died after crashing head on into a taxi during a police chase suffered 'catastrophic' injuries that were unsurvivable, an inquest has heard. Tommy Sharp, 29, and Paddy Connors, 36, died after a short police chase ended in a horror smash just before midnight on September 23, 2020.

Evidence has previously been heard that neither Tommy or Paddy were wearing a seatbelt, with Dr Nkonge confirming the injuries sustained to the chest of Tommy were consistent with him impacting the steering wheel and both of their heads impacting the windscreen.
Dr Evans said this would result in mild to moderate intoxication, generally depending on a person's tolerance, and the level of cocaine in his system was suggestive of "recreational use rather than recent excess". She confirmed this could affect a persons' ability to drive. Steven Bell, a consultant paramedic with North West Ambulance Service who carried out a clinical review into the immediate care of Tommy and Paddy at the scene, was the last person to be called to give evidence to the jury. He said both men were in 'traumatic cardiac arrest' when paramedics arrived just after midnight to take over care from Greater Manchester Police.
