The Vikings have a history of star wide receivers, from NBATVAhmad to criscarter80 to RandyMoss. “But we’ve been waiting on the next one.” The 'franchise changer' has arrived: It's Justin Jefferson ✍️ alec_lewis

The three years since, culminating with Jefferson’s 128-catch, 1,809-yard tour-de-force of a season that has returned this year’s Vikings to the playoffs, have only further cemented Carter’s initial feeling. He reflects fondly on that night, not because the Vikings trusted his analysis, but because of what he felt it would mean for the exclusive fraternity of legendary Vikings receivers.

The Vikings traded for Rashad before the season opener in 1976. He arrived and put on a pass-catching display in practice, but the week of the first game, Tarkenton spotted Rashad in the training room. Teammates had been taping their ankles, but Rashad was in street clothes. The team had told him not to dress.

Tarkenton had implored the venerable Vikings coach, Bud Grant, to trade for the 26-year-old Rashad in the first place. The quarterback and receiver had known each other previously, sitting down at a charitable golf tournament years prior when Rashad was with the St. Louis Cardinals. Carter relayed to Rashad how much he impacted what he felt a receiver could be: acrobatic, agile, a focal point both on the field and off.
