THE MET Office has issued flood alerts and weather warnings for parts of the UK as torrential rain continues to batter parts of the country.Temperatures are set to rise over the next few daysThe met office has now extended that warning to the north of the country, with potential damage to local communities due to flooding. But on Saturday afternoon, clouds will disperse and sunshine will come to the southeast of the country allowing social bubbles to meet up outside in the good weather.

Met Office spokesperson Grahame Madge said: “June has started in a very unsettled way weather-wise, and we’ve got a continuation of that."Basically, what we have got is a low-pressure area that is centred to the south of the UK, and that is bringing a flow of conditions coming in across the North Sea.

"It's bringing in moisture, lots of cloud, and creating quite a humid environment which is creating patchy rainfall - some of which could be quite intense, with thundery activity mixed in with it.

He added: “These conditions will be lasting over the next few days, certainly up to and including the weekend. In their latest forecast, which covers June 15 to 24, the Met Office said "largely dry" conditions would turn to showers and thunder. The forecast said showers may be "heavy and merge into longer spells of rain at times with a risk of thunder also, although thunder mainly in southern or southwestern parts of the UK."But sunshine will return to most of the UK by Saturday
