Some serious downpours across Lancashire today

Parts of Lancashire are being hit with flash flooding today after heavy downpours through the night and this morning .

The Met Office weather warning for rain lasts until midnight tonight. Here are the latest flood alerts in place in LancashireThis flood alert remains in force due to elevated river levels in the Earby area following a spell of heavy rain overnight. Despite further persistent rain today, levels are expected to steadily fall from later this morning as most of the heavier rain has passed.River levels have risen on the River Douglas due to heavy rainfall.

Flooding is possible at River Ribble from Samlesbury and the River Darwen from Darwen including Blackburn, Preston, Walton-Le-Dale, Pleasington and Higher Walton. River levels are expected to remain high. Flooding is possible at River Alt and other watercourses from Huyton to Hightown including, Kirkby, Fazakerley, Maghull, Formby, Aughton, Sefton and Lunt. River levels will remain high.

River levels are rising on the River Irwell. Areas most at risk include low lying land and roads around the Rivers Beal, Roch and Croal, Limy Water and their tributaries. No property flooding is expected.
