England flooding an absolute tragedy, says Boris Johnson

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn had earlier said the government's response was"woeful" while Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson called for"long-term policy changes".Both leaders urged the prime minister to declare a"national emergency".

"I know there will be people who are worrying about the damage to their homes, who will be worried about the insurance situation, worried about the losses they face. The five severe flood warnings along the River Don in South Yorkshire have now been removed, butAbout 500 homes have been flooded in Doncaster with more than 1,000 properties evacuated in areas hit by the floods.

A couple who became new parents on Friday - to be told hours later that their home in Fishlake was underwater - have praised the support they have had from people as"invaluable"."Thank God for the people of Stainforth, and other people around for the support that they've shown," said Dan Greenslade.

sure Bojo's houses are safe.

BBCPolitics Bushfires in Australia and flooding in England, how ironic

BBCPolitics Bit late Just another of his PR stunts

So leaders from other political parties are there seeing first hand what's happened but the totally inarticulate BoJo can't even string a coherent sentence together whilst sat in a warm dry office. Disgraceful

Only after Corbyn persuaded him it was an emergency!

Flood 'defences' mostly move the problem downstream. Try beavers upstream, ban impermeable driveways, redig the bends that were taken out of rivers, stop building on floodplains, bring in the Dutch.

After saying it wasn't an emergency and we told 'him' off....

BBCPolitics Just words means nothing to them.

BBCPolitics Your crocodile tears are only adding to the problem!

And all corbyn and swinson did was try to score political points and didn't really do anything constructive or helpful.

BBCPolitics

If the existing budget was managed probably there wouldn’t be a problem.

and it only took him 5 days to wake up to that realisation 👏👏👏👏.

After people saw footage of that house floating down the Thames

But not an emergency

FinallyMr Johnson says something about this national emergency

Same thing under Blair/Brown in 2007. Just because there is an election coming up it is overly politicised.

Wow. Pulitzer Prize-winning stuff I'm paying a license fee for here.

BBCPolitics Why aren’t these resources in place now in the event of further flooding so those that are affected at least reassured immediately help is available. We need a process in place. We know further extreme events will occur year on year more regularly.

An absolute tragedy today but last week it was for 'local people to deal with'....

BBCPolitics FFS your efforts to hype this walking disaster of a PM are both tedious and embarrassing for a huge proportion of your audience . LiarJohnson

Got your words in the wrong order there! Boris Johnson an absolute tragedy?

Quick response

BBCPolitics BBCBias again. Suggesting that it was as a result of opposition politicians criticisms. BorisJohnson is upping the amount as the severity of the situation is becoming more apparent.

Happens pretty much every few years, you’d think the “penny” would’ve dropped by now about flood defences?

'It's not killing enough poor people,' adds Rees-Mogg.

Good job he got a nudge wasn’t it Corbyn ToryLies

Oh, BorisJohnson finally noticed did he?

BBCPolitics This was allowed to happen.

He making cups of tea.....

Glad to see the governments got its eyes on this

Good to know. 🙈

Only a few days late with the 'sympathy'

Or a consequence of building and living on a flood plain 🤷🏼‍♂️

Because it might make some voters he doesn't give a ! about them?

Yeah, so awful he did nothing to help. Apart from picking up a mop to pose for photos.

Will you help bail out the UK?

Has he called a national emergency yet?

Boris Johnson made two glaring gaffes during the Remembrance Sunday serviceAs is tradition on Remembrance Sunday, the UK's political leaders are welcomed to lay a wreath on the Cenotaph to honour those that have given their lives to serve the country in conflict. This year No.1, he turned up. No.2 anyone? Gotta love those righty whiteys! All flag hugging and patriotic and shit, until the rubber hits the road and they're exposed for the phony con men that they are. Hang on just a minute. If you watch the BBC's version of events there were no gaffes. It is almost as if they had a different version from everyone else.BBCBreakfast
