I picked up a copy of The Hobbit for 50p and started reading it on the train to work. Then a colleague said it might be worth something

– printed in notes about the novel on the dust jacket. On the first edition, the name was misspelled as “Dodgeson” and had to be hand-corrected by the publishers. I checked the back and found the crossed-out e.
